I know of several people that have been using the 2008 Pioneer Elite Signature series PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD for almost 12 years and they still work flawlessly. I have seen 3 PRO-141FD’s and 3 PRO-101FD’s still working flawlessly after almost 12 years (some have a October 2008 manufacturing date). The last manufacturing date for the July 2008 Pioneer plasma models was around April 2009. April 2009 was when all Pioneer plasmas went out of production in the United States since the plasma plant shut down (but most the last plasmas were made Jan or Feb of 2009 from what I understand). Maybe they will last up to 20 years. The Elite Signature series has hand inspected parts to make sure the best parts were used. The Pioneer plasmas were engineered in Japan and assembled in the United States using high quality components from around the world. The PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD had the best black levels and 2-D triple flash 72fps motion compared to any other plasma display. However, in the year 2016 OLED flat panels were overall better with 4K resolution, absolute deeper blacks then the 2008 Pioneer plasma, etc. Only the motion of the 2008 plasma is better when compared to a 2020 OLED screen.

The Japanese company Pioneer assembled their high-end plasmas in the United States for many years, however most companies now have their electronics including displays assembled in South Korea, China, and sometimes Mexico to keep cost lower. Pioneer Elite Blu-ray players and Pioneer Elite A/V receivers have an excellent build quality with a 3 year warranty (engineered in Japan and assembled in China by automated machines). I know family members that have a couple of 12 year old 2008 Pioneer Elite SC-07 A/V receivers that still work flawlessly. All my family members home theater equipment is connected to pure sine wave Cyberpower 1500watt UPS power backup units.

Having an excellent quality pure sine wave UPS or good quality surge protector connected to ones equipment can help make them last 20+ years. But if the consumer electronic product has a bad build quality then less then 10 years or less then 5 years is possible.

4K resolution was not a game changer for OLED, no it was not. 4K TVs without HDR adds little to nothing to the experience over 1080p. HDR and higher peak brightness over plasma, from my eyes, makes a difference. With that being said, Pioneer Plasma still does somethings better, such as "near black" or shadow detail, accurate colors and motion handling. OLED, in my opinion get just too dark, too dark on everything.

That is why I will be looking at going 4K or 8K DLP projector for the ultimate in picture quality. OLED might end up in my bedroom one day unless I do a short throw projector in the bedroom. 99% of commercial movie theaters still use projectors.

That's exactly what I will be doing if I can't find another plasma on the used market when mine dies!

My 5090 took 10 years of heavy usage (primary tv and kids in the family) before the pink pixel issues started to occur, it still ain't completely done as they show up only when there is lots of brightest white in the image but forced me to start thinking of the inavoidable: Replacement. However this was one of those very rare instances when luck settled on my side, found pretty much accidentally 6090 for sale with 400 € price tag from local equivalent of craigslist and there was absolutely no need for consideration, I gladly drove 350 km's to pick it up just yesterday making me one happy cookie once again

Hello all. I have a krp500m. Up until now I have always used a receiver to have sound. We have decided to move this monitor to a place in the home where tv speakers would be best.

Does anyone have the speaker wire with pioneer connect laying around or the speakers themselves? Not looking to spend a lot but I would love to keep this plasma going.

Thanks. I am in Canada.

I also need the stand but I can work that out, If needed.

Hey guys,

Did the PRO-151FD come with a stand? I need to take mine off the wall for a bit for some painting/remodeling.

Yes the 2008 Pioneer Elite PRO-151FD comes with the stand. It was the model above called the 2008 Pioneer Elite Signature series PRO-141FD where the stand was sold separately. The PRO-101FD and PRO-141FD had hand inspected parts and was only 2.5 inches thick which was excellent for a plasma made in 2008. Of course the PRO-101FD and PRO-141FD were monitors only with no speakers, there were designed for someone using a surround system and external cable/satellite box.

Some people perfered the PRO-151FD since it has speakers, built in tuner, and came with a stand. If you are missing the stand you might be able to find one in the Pioneer parts department online.

Thanks. Yeah I just sold my speakers (still new boxed!) on eBay last week. Gotta go dig around for the stand now....

On all the year 2008 Pioneer PRO-141FD 60 inch and year 2008 Pioneer PRO-101FD 50 inch displays that I own and that family members that I know own, they are all working perfectly fine still after 15 years of use. They are all connected to a pure sine wave UPS power backup units. These Pioneer Elite Signature series plasmas were engineered in Japan and assembled in the United States around 15 years ago using hand selected high-end parts from various countries in the world.

The purpose of this post is that I wanted to mention that on the 15-year-old Pioneer PRO-101FD that I use almost everyday, the batteries went bad in the wireless remote control. When I went to change the two batteries in the remote control today, the AA alkaline batteries ended up being the original Fujitsu brand of alkaline batteries that came with the remote control. I am very surprised that these original AA alkaline batteries that were used almost everyday in the remote lasted for around 15 years. Normally only lithium AA batteries can last between 10-20 years and its almost unheard of for AA alkaline batteries to last that long. However, on another Pioneer PRO-141FD that is not used that often, I checked and the original AA Fujitsu batteries that came with the remote are still good and operational after 15 years. It was just because I used the remote almost everyday that the batteries went bad after 15 years on the PRO-101FD. My point is Pioneer even picked out excellent alkaline batteries to ship with their plasma remote controls since they sometimes last 15+ years. I just replaced the batteries today with two AA lithium Energizer brand batteries that should last between 10-20 years in the remote control.

That's awesome because alkaline batteries they all leak after ten years and more, even before that. How many remotes did I have to clean due to leaking batteries!

Can batteries truly last that long?
Even the most expensive rechargeable batteries don't last; they lose completely their charge after a certain number of charges...say ten years max, or less.
Still it's cheaper than buying regular alkaline batteries.

* That Pioneer TV, does it support 3D?

The 2008 Pioneer PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD were Pioneers last plasma displays that went out of production in April of 2009 when Pioneer shut down the United States plasma factory. So there was never any 3D displays made by Pioneer since 3D displays did not start appearing on the market until the year 2010 from various companies with the launch of the 2010 Blu-ray 3D format.

Not until the year 2016 did a 4K OLED display have overall better picture quality when compared to the year 2008 Pioneer plasma that are 2K displays.

I'll learn the IR codes from an OEM remote initially for use with my remote control system. After that the remote is placed in stored. I have upwards of 50 or more OEM remotes at this point in storage. All the battery compartments are empty.
