Default Need help with new harddrive for ps3

Hey gang,

I just realized I have less than 10gigs of space on my 80gig PS3.

So I need to get a new hard drive next month. My question to those in the know is how do I find out my current PS3's harddrive specs so that I can match them or exceed them in a new hard drive?

I want it to be as fast or faster than what came with it. I'm thinking just going to a 500gig drive. Any recommendations of brands to get that have worked for you? or ones to avoid like the plague?

Thanks a lot. I really don't want to screw this up. And yes I use the backup utility onto an external every few months. So that's not an issue.

Just get a 2.5 inch drive 5400rpm is standard but a 7200rpm drive should work too.

Here are some links:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136314

Western Digital is my brand of choice after Seagate had that fimware debacle with the 7200.11 drives but here is a link to a seagate product anyhow.

If you want to look at other brands or sizes just:

1) go to newegg.com

2) click computer hardware

3) hard drives

4) laptop hds

5) interface SATA 3.0 gbps

After that everything you see will work inside the PS3

Cheers

Oh and newegg has the best prices on these things the vast majority of the time, but searching the model number on amazon doesn't hurt.

That it is... 2.5 SATA drive (laptop drive)

5400 or 7200 RPM. Little difference in load times between the two, and the possible issue of more heat with a 7200 has turned out not to be an issue at all.

Newegg is cheaper than worst buy.

Thanks Alpha, great intel. I will most likely pick up the WD it has really good review ratings.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I'm using a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB (WD3200BJKT) in my PS3. Every HDD in my home is a Western Digital (5 internal, 3 external).

Piece of cake as long as the 5 screws in your PS3 don't hate you as much as you'll grow to hate them.

Did you change the hard drive? If so maybe you didn't seat it well. Or maybe it's somewhat defective. I don't get that message ever and it's not normal.
