When will 1080p-capable camcorders be hitting store shelves as it seems most available ones now only go to 1080i (or, at least ones that don't cost a bundle and a half)?

I know this isn't answering your question, but I bought the Sony HDR-HC5 1080i HDV camcorder and it freakin rocks! Earlier, I bought a $300 Panasonic SD camcorder and 2 months later when I watched the tapes, they were pure rubbish. Sure the Sony was about $1,100, but if you have the cash, it's worth it.

I have the earlier HDV camera, the HDR-HC1 and I agree the quality is great. Even with a 52" 1080p set, and a fast pan (which I try to avoid), the "motion blur" from interlacing is really too small to see at a 7 foot distance.
I believe that the day they tip the last 24 frame theatre projector into the dumpster (estimate: 5 years), no one will care about 24p. If there is any quality edge, it will only be apparent under studio contditions (slow pans, stedicam or dolly), and nothing we will match shooting things informally. |

I got a new electronics magazine at hand , and it shows the Canon HG10, HR10, and HV20 as 1080p They shoot 1080i, but if you move it to P, it cuts it down to 1440x1080 Quote:

Depends on what you mean by "faking". There are several HDV camcorders out there that does true 1080p HDV. They are not faking anything at all, but it is HDV, which is 1440x1080 with a matching PAR. The Canon HV20 (and 30 now) is a fantastic camcorder with an amazing picture. Anything I have shot on tripod with my HV20 is noticeable better quality than what you get on HD broadcast today.

It's 1080p,and it is so for less than $1K. Now, when it comes to real lines of resolution, knowing that is a science in and of it self. I can tell you this though. The output from an HV20 will satisfy you on a 1080p TV, more so than HD broadcast does.

The Hitachi camera sucks. Better off with the Sony HDR-SR11. 1080p on solid state and HDD. The Sony PMW-EX1 is a much better camera than the Panny P2. Sony know where it's at with camcorders... after all, they do make the HDCAM-SR 4:4:4

There is also the HG10 with the same optics, but with an HDD. I got mine for less than $1k at a local camera store. Cannon is suppose to have better image stabilization than the Sony, but I'm not sure if I could tell the difference.

guys I know about HD Camcorders quite a bit.
NONE of the Canon consumer Line (HV20/30,HF10/100) do 1080p.. they are all 1920x1080i Full HD. The Sony SR-11 I own is also 1080i. Don't let the hype fool you... a good set that has a halfway decent interlacer will up your 1080i to 1080p. |
