Default Hitachi Dz-bd70a And Dz-bd7ha Blu-ray Camcorder Info

The October 2007 issue of Videomaker has a brief article about the two Hitachi BLU-RAY camcorders. The 8CM BLU-RAY disc is going to cost around $20 and will allow one to record at 1920 X 1080 interlace. Consumer 1080P/24 camcorders are most likely about 2 years away from become a reality. One thing these two Hitachi Camcorders are lacking is 3 CCD’s. As soon as someone comes out with a consumer HDTV camcorder that has true 1080P/24 recording with 3 CCD’s then I will be purchasing one. First model might cost around $5,000.
Hitachi is coming out with two BLU-RAY camcorders this October. The DZ-BD70A is just a standard BLU-RAY camcorder that has a list price of $1,299. The DZ-BD7HA is a hybrid BLU-RAY camcorder that includes a 30GB hard drive for $1,499. For another $200 the 30GB hard drive option is worth the price. At the highest recording quality mode of 1920 X 1080I 4 hours will fit on the hard drive and 1 hour will fit on a small single sided 8CM BLU-RAY disc. The camcorders will accept both a BD-R and BD-RE disc.

Well October os not quite over yet and for a peice this expensive I would buy it at a place that I can return it to and or get help on. I'd stay away from this item until it's available in the states.

I've been wanting one and have seen the ebay ads myself but I don't think the risk is worth the reward.

well buyer protection through paypal will cover me 100% so really i have no risk if you think about it.

If anything, and it turns out to be some scam or misrepresentation of actual item, or false advertising, or not revealing any facts, etc... my money will just be tied up for a week or so before paypal will issue me full refund.

Im not really worried about that - but just dying to get my hands on this thing as i havent seen it anywhere in the US as of yet, and would be a joy to have for my sisters upcoming wedding and engagement festivities etc.

Does anyone know if this actually IS available somehwere to demo/view.

I think i will buy it from the ebay listing as i am covered 100%....

This would be great to know. I've been checking Best Buy/Fry's Electronics and Circuit City when I go into them but have seen nothing yet.

Anyone of our BD fanactics acutally bought one of these yet? A couple of blog reviews I saw praised it while a couple of user reviews on Amazon and CNET slammed it.

I have a BD70A, it's big and bulky, it comes with one small BD-RE. The problem with these things is that the smaller blank bd media is currently even more expensive than the big ones. They're also hard to find.

The advantage is that the disk can be loaded onto a PS3 or panasonic bd player and played directly.

It's already being replaced by a newer model because the image quality sucks. Better off with a Sony camcorder anyway, even if they don't have a Blu Ray consumer model yet.

My favorite's the Panasonic HDC-SD5. It's small, and it accepts SDHC. I agree the Hitachi unit has got some rough edges that I would not recommend.
