Default Chairman of Sony Pictures interviewed on CNBC about Blu-ray victory

Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures, was just interviewed live about the recent moves in the format wars on the CNBC program "Fast Money". For those not familiar with the program it's mostly a show focused on stock trades and information. Sony's stock price is up 5% this week mostly on the moves by Netflix, Best Buy, and now Wal-Mart to drop HD DVD.

The hosts said Blu-ray had won the format war and the banner this was run under was "Blu-ray Breakout". Mr. Lynton himself was asked about the Wal-Mart move and the various synergies going on between the different divisions of Sony(ie SCEA, the studio, etc). They asked if more synergy would occur like when Sony packaged Talladega Nights with the PS3 at launch and Mr. Lynton said that he thought the various divisions of Sony were working together better than ever. He also briefly mentioned the writer's strike and how everyone was glad it was over and back to work.

In another sidenote MSNBC just had a news update on their broadcast channel mentioning the rumor that Toshiba was dropping HD DVD. These are good times indeed.

That's funny that MSNBC would run the Toshiba 'rumor'. Shows they must also have sources to give it more credibility.

I mean they have a higher standard then G4 when it comes to rumors.
