Default Connecting a headphone receiver directly to my TV vs. directly to my ps3?

Hi guys, after much debate I bought some Sony MDR DS7000 (7.1 ch) headphones imported from Japan and I'm loving' them; classy, long battery life, comfy and they sound great IMHO, they do sound better than stereo.

I wanted them to play MGS4, and just connected directly the reciever (which supports DTS, DD, RF, DDPlIIx and AAC) to my PS3 via optical cable; problem is, for you to hear the sound, you have select "Optical cable" ad your sound source, and the audio will only come through the headphones.

After I was done with MGS, I decided to explore the set a bit more, to see if I was really using the full potential or not; I can't use the manual, as it's in Japanese, and there is no online manual for it, either.

I tryed connecting it to my HDTV, worked great with TV channels, then I decided to give it a go with my ps3, (note that now my reciever is connected by optical to my tv and my ps2 via HDMI to my Tv).....and it's only stereo!

When I manually checked the options on the HDMI audio settings, and went to play a game, there is no sound, I do get stereo if I only enable it, but enabling more options get me no sound.

Anybody knows what I'm doing wrong or if there any way to go around this?
Is it possible to get audio from both sources instead of only one?

Thanks!
