1 March 2023 EEImax for HD and UHD goes from 1.1 to 0.9 and EEImax for 8k goes from NA to 0.9

that is how laws work.

for my US and anglo-Canadians Europe uses "," for decimals (instead of ".") and space for thousands (instead of ",") so what will look to us as 1,234.5 will be 1 234,5

Personally, I can't say if the seasons are any good or not, but my friend and his wife really enjoy them.
I just ordered the three disc set from Amazon for $80. I will grab the fourth down the road. I do love me some sci-fi.

I already had season 1 of Discovery on BD, which is why I didn't buy that 1-3 set.

The UK set of the same 1-3 seasons is also almost $20 cheaper over the domestic set and it's region free. I own most of the ST tv series on BD UK imports, because years ago when I bought them they were absurdly cheap via Amazon UK.

bought these this week:

The last one is the most expensive disc I've bought so far and a blind buy, so I hope it's worth it. I also watched my first Bollywood movie (An Action Theater) in a theater today. It was average but with the dearth of new releases I think I will seek out more foreign cinema.

Disney Saw 19% Decline in Fiscal Year 2022 Home Entertainment Revenue

Quote:
The Walt Disney Company generated $820 million selling digital and physical movies for the fiscal year 2022, ended Oct. 1. The home entertainment revenue was down 19% from revenue of more than $1 billion in the previous-year period, according to a regulatory filing.

The decrease in home entertainment revenue was due to lower unit sales despite the benefit of more new release titles in the current fiscal year than in the prior pandemic-impacted year. Net effective pricing was comparable to the prior year as lower unit pricing was offset by a higher mix of new release titles, which have a higher sales price than catalog titles.

Top-selling retail releases in the year were Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and animated musical Encanto.

It would help if they didn’t keep big titles like Prey back from disc release.

I'm sure all the Marvel and Star Wars Disney+ shows would also sell well if they were released on disc.

That would be a one time deal. Leaving them on Disney+ = Evergreen Deal

Map data % must be a country's households vs subs. For anyone that has been very far into Canada above the the US border will realize they run out of paved roads pretty soon. We travel a lot of state highways and county roads in the US and there is a lot of people out there with no cell service, some apparently without phone service (no phone line on power line poles).

I bet most subs are grouped around city centers and metro areas in the US and Canada.

Filling in some more Star Trek gaps in my physical disc collection -- bought Lower Decks seasons 1 & 2 on Blu-ray. They should be here tomorrow.

I also have to double check my inventory to see if I have the Original Series on BD. I know I have it on HD-DVD, but that set has been long retired. I don't remember if I re-aquired the set on BD.

I'm mostly surprised it has only fallen that much. Even on here a website for collectors the demand for disney movies is way down. I know at least 3 reasons my entry point has gone down for disney movies.

disney plus- its kind of hard to feel a rush to buy anything when the disney catalog is already available to you.

lack of a vault- Disney stuff isn't going out of print and its price will trend downward more often then upward since disney plus launched. In the past you had a time crunch to buy some disney movies that just doesnt exist anymore and alot more people are noticing that.

lower quality films- Disney has put out a fair number of meh movies lately. They put out a few great tv series but those arent for sale. I don't think i have seen a Disney movie people can go buy in stores since like end game.

Only one title for us in 2022 from Disney:

Watched Thor: Love and Thunder last night, some good visual effects, so so sound track and a script written by what must have been a grade school student, it was ing bad.

Used to love Trek in the DS9 days. All the Dominion, Cardassian war stuff.

These 2 points go together. If Disney gets people hooked on Disney+ then even if people don't like their new movies they will keep subscribing month after month to access all their old favorites that they never bothered to buy (because they were available on Disney+).

In the long run subscriptions end up costing way more then buying titles individually and lead to a quantity over quality mentality.

Let's say there are 50 movies you want to own from the Disney brand. And lets say you paid $10 for each. That's $500.

At their new rate ($11) that 45 months of Disney Plus. Not only do you get the 50 movies you like, you also get the hundreds that exist today plus the next almost 4 years worth. Then you have the TV shows you can't buy. And maybe you will broaden your AV appetite and look at Nat Geo's offerrings.

So to wrap up, it's more expensive to buy the movies than it is to commit the same money to Disney+. And what about all the new movies that will come in that 45 month period? More cash outlay to own them. Included with your subscription.
