I'll probably get this when it's under $150 but only after it has the DV out and applied. We all know how easily "Smmer 2018" can turn into "Spring 2019".

Put me on this list too. My AVR's update was pushed to Summer 2018(recent rumors say March) also so this player will hopefully fall in line perfectly. Hopefully the price will drop by then too.

Without the DV update the X700 will not be doing anything my current X800 cannot do anyway. So many "Summer 2018" DV updates across many devices and brands, coincidence or maybe not?

I think I read even the new X900F will be updated post launch also even though current X1 Extreme equipped TVs are supposed to be updated this month. You'd think it would have been ready for launch then unless the update for current models will also be delayed till Summer.

I have an Apple TV 4K, but with its single HDMI out and lack of optical, is currently routed through the AVR for audio anyway and I will not be changing that just for DV. So even if my TV does get updated this month, it's DV capability will go unused until I choose a new player(most likely this one as of now) and my AVR gets it's update which should be around the same time but isn't happening until Summer 2018 apparently anyway lol.

Good idea. Look at LG's UP970 for example...still no DV update on the recent firmware. It baffles me why such a big company can't have the DV out of the box on releasedate. Is there a reason for this?

probably because it isn't DV ready out of the box. And who knows when it will get the update. Sick of waiting for all these vendors promising FW updates for DV. The new panny is the same as well.

Don't like the look of the shell...but DV would be nice.

Case looks like Sony's old cheapo disc spinners.

Why are they going backwards? X700?

Saying it's a step down is pretty presumptuous. Personally, I like the look of it. Outside of the shape, is there any particular reason you think it looks cheap? The size or shape doesn't necessarily translate to inferior build quality. And who cares what the model number is? If the next player is the X600, looks exactly like the X800, and has DV and HDR10+, would you still consider it a "step down" simply because the model number is lower? That seems like pretty faulty logic to me.

3 pounds weight. Brick power supply. Remote is tiny like from Sony's plastic Players a few years back that sold for like under $75.

Would'nt be surprised x700 drops to $100 by Black Friday. Especially if DV FW has not been released.

When printed reviews comes out Our Judgement of It will be more clear. Theres all kinds of 4K Players out there(No DV) that looks much much more expensive with better remotes.

Having brought over 6 Sony Players the last few years... im passing on the x700. But I would buy it as gift for friends should it price drop to $100

If CES 2018 Sony Player was exactly like x800(quality and all) but with DV... They could have sold that at $450 with 2 DV Disc Promo... and stole the DV Market. But Sony apparently is going the other way

Some people prefer their Blu-ray players with more metal parts, less plastic parts.

Think for 2018 Sony's head was too much into Robo Dog. Talk to devices stuff.

What about Z9F, 940F, 930F for 2018. This year just seems to be a SQUAT Tight year for Sony. With Premo stuff comimg out in 2019. With Everything with DV on board.

All my opinion of cource. But Im disappointed in the lack of Sony Excitement for 2018.

Unbelievable and shocking that you of all people complain about the quality of this player, when you are still defending and love one of the players with the cheapest build ever, the LG UP970. Really, shocking.

Philips is actually the cheapest of the cheapest, can't we all just agree that only Panasonic, Oppo, and Sony (Samsung and LG both make better TVs and Smartphones than their Blu-ray player departments.) are the only good Blu-ray player makers these days?
I'm kinda tired of all of this childish arguments over corporate company brands when half the time most companies care more about the money than the customers, just grow the hell up kiddies!

I have absolutely no idea why you're bringing up corporate companies when I'm only talking about two individual players? But maybe I'm not grown up enough to understand ......
