The RF output is basically the entire raw signal off the LaserDisc, the demodulator filters out the specific band the AC-3 data is encoded on and sends it as a standard AC-3 signal to the Dolby Digital decoder.

Finally tested the E800 with my sophisticated cooling method. After a 100 minute movie(From Dusk Till Dawn), it was still hot, but definitely cooler than before. No longer scalding to the touch!

In hindsight, a more efficient method I think would be to cut an actual grille with long, thin rectangles. Holes(at least the size I drilled), are too constricted. Though, giant holes or a ton of small ones would look silly. The left side and center, when looking at it from the front, is hotter than the right.

Overall, it was certainly worth doing! But if I had the right equipment, a proper grille pattern instead of holes, would probably be better.

(Holy hell, the AC3 track on this film was awesome! Lovely rumble every time a vampire exploded!)

Edit: 10 minutes after turning everything off, the E800 is already perfectly cool to the touch. Like it had not even been running. Pretty impressed with that!

If you have a machine shop or decent mechanic locally they could probably press something for you. But have you considered something like:

Your local hardware store will have options, you could probably go nuts and put them on the sides if that would help too, then just spray them to match.

The top and sides are one solid piece, so you could have a new cover fabricated with those vents for sure. Not convinced that much effort is needed, but certainly something to think about, thank you!

I think you could get by by picking up a couple of louver vents like pictured and cut a smaller hole in your case and screw the vent the top or sides. Then just spray to match the color, it would provide ventilation although it would look a bit industrial.

A local garage should have a press, they often need to provide extra ventilation for customizations on the hood or side panelling.

Thanks for the update, Vanguard. You could seriously cook an omelette on that thing! I’m going to have to shoot one of my heat guns on it after a film to see just how hot the sucker gets.

Fellow Laserdisc enthusiast here. I have a CLD-D925 (serviced and maintained) and my daily driver a Pioneer CLD-R7G (serviced and maintained) with Yamaha APD-2 demodulator.

It is hooked up to a DVDO VP50 Pro and an HD Fury Dr HDMI (the VP50 Pro has EDID issues, hence without something to mess with the EDID it can provide buggy performance, I had long chats with DVDO about this and they've added my findings to their legacy support KB notes). Also have a DVDO Edge as a backup, which is fine but I much prefer the VP50 Pro.

I only collect niche stuff, things not out on DVD or better, specific cuts and so on. Helps keep the collection smaller than letting it spiral out of control amassing a load of outdated pony, superceeded by a decent DVD or better.

Currently watching this classic film in preparation for The Flash. The picture on this release is incredible, and the PCM sound blows away the remixed Atmos on the 4K.

I've brought this up a few times in the past...but to this day (with my old gear), I swear my LD of Stop Making Sense sounded better than my Blu-ray. But most people said I was full of shit because Blu is 'better'.

It's nothing new, but I do like going back and watching some LDs from time to time. A recent random example was Best of the Best 2. The soundtrack sounds good on the format and the warmer, saturated colors suit the movie pretty well. Sometimes an alternate presentation can be as fun as blu ray, etc.

That's a good LD Title, this was before WHV Switched to DADC A infamous rotter plant.
