the interview i wouldnt care about the music in Air is awesome and i would like to have music videos of Air in HD. Since I have the PS3 with the latest system update i get to watch Air in HD anyways so its not a complete loss for me but still I would buy Air BD with the english dubbed anyday even if it means buying 10 copies. When there is an anime i really love watching Ill buy as many copies as i want even though that would mean not being able to afford others.

Right, but the number of importers that are willing to pay that much is very small to begin with, and a dying breed. I'm actually one of them, but even I refuse to touch their US releases. I would have gotten Gunbuster, but then they went and edited it without telling anyone and hoping people wouldn't notice.
Yeah, it's a dying breed. I think the real goal is to increase raw numbers across the board to lower prices for everyone due to volume to be honest.

The editing on gunbuster was for some kind of music rights, and being rookies they didn't think to notify people about changes.

Default Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise - Rerelease Oct 15 Pre-order

Did anyone purchase Royal Space Force? If yes, can you please let me know if it comes in a standard Blu-Ray case, standard DVD case, or some weird case? Based on the online pictures, it looks like if it comes in a gift box. I hate dual disk releases; I have to pay more for no reason.

Well anyway, I just want to know if the BD disk comes in a BD case. Or if the gift set box has tow different cases for both disks.

Thanks

They're in standard DVD cases. The JP version that came out at the end of July is the same as well. All of BV's packaging is non-standard for Blu-ray and for HD DVD as well. Freedom in particular was awful as it used those super jewel cases. bleah.

Yep, 2 Amaray cases, one for the SD DVD, one for the BD and they're in a box.

Tell me, is this a good anime? I haven't seen it and am wary to buy something blindly like this... anime can be either really good, or really bad... or just really weird... (which i like)

I'm a big fan of Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, do you think this would appeal?

It's not an action piece

It's like The Right Stuff surrounded by an exploration of humanity (not Oshii style)

It's not for everyone. Personally I'm not a fan of the movie, and found it boring. I know other people who think the same way, so I'm not exactly an isolated incident. That said, it fits more in the 'film' category than the 'movie' one, so if you're a film fan and like your moving pictures with more than just popcorn on the side, it may just be for you. People who like the movie, like it a lot, while those who don't tend to just forget most of it. With the price BV is charging for it, I'd say it's worth a rental at the very least. That way if you like it, you can always buy it later.

Just in case anyone isn't following the "OFFICIAL Anime on Blu-ray (USA releases)" thread, Maiden Japan is re-releasing Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnęamise on Blu-ray on 10/15/13.

Unlike the previous Bandai Visual edition, this one will be in a Blu-ray case.

Awesome news. Every once in a while I would check to see on news for a re-release, since I skipped on the Bandai version.

I already have the Bandai release. If this is a re-release, I'll skip if it's a matter of a different case.

I don't think there is any new content, just repackaged in a blu-ray amaray case.
Definitely preordered, as I never got the first offering.

The key difference between the Maiden Japan version and the Bandai version is the special features and the packaging (and Bandai came with a booklet).

The Maiden Japan comes with 22:51 of Japanese trailers, the older Bandai came with a theatrical trailer nearly two minutes long and a pilot film which is four minutes long. Both are are in the Maiden Japan version but there is more Japanese trailer content in the 2013 release.

I watched both, trying to find differences in picture quality and I believe that there is a tiny difference (Note: They were cropped differently)

Maiden:

Bandai:

Maiden:

Bandai:

Personally, I think both are very good Blu-rays but the Maiden Japan has longer special features (22 minutes worth of trailers) and in a Blu-ray case, while the Bandai version has 5-6 minutes of special features, came in a slipcase, a booklet and in two clear DVD amaray cases which held the Blu-ray and DVD version of the film.

Audio-wise, the Maiden Japan is English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The Bandai version is Japanese Dolby TrueHD 5.1, Japanese Linear PCM and English Dolby Digital.

In the end, it comes down to preference and the fact that the Maiden Japan is easier to find (and probably cheaper) unlike the Bandai version.

Maybe it's the crummy monitor I use at work, but I do see a difference in colors as well. If the prices drops reasonably I may double dip. Heck I'm gonna do it with Akira, so why not Honneamise?

There is definetly a slight difference based on those screenshots. Now, as to which one is actually better, that's another question. I'd love a comparison on the specs as far as the bit-rates go because if there's much of a difference there that's probably where some of the biggest differences could be found for those with bigger HDTV's.

I'm guessing it's not worth the double-dip for me, though. And I like the art-box of the original release (which I paid less than $20 for and it goes well with my Jin-Roh Japanese import).
