My Sony Blu-ray player, modifed for all regions, is struggling with certain discs in the same places, even after exchanging the discs. The disc frezzes, the picture breaks up, the film skips ahead
Dragonwyck (Indicator) - start of film I Know What You Did Last Summer (88 Films) - 55min in Little Mermaid II (Disney) - first 5min Is a particular reason a certain player would have the same issue with two copies of the same disc? |

That sounds like the laser may be starting to go bad. If it happens consistently in the same spot across multiple discs it could be poorly authored discs, but more likely it's happening at the layer change on a dual layer disc and something is causing the player to trip up. It's possible that the player will last for many more years with similar issues or it may very well stop reading discs completely within the next few months (depending on how much you use the player).
Laser lenses can be replaced and seeing as how this is a region free modified player that may be a future option.... of course it is also possible that the region modification is the culprit in the first place. Many of those Sony Region Free players however are already quite cheap players and so I wouldn't be shocked if a component was going bad. I have a Song Region free player as well but I have it set to Region B and only use it for region locked discs for many of the reasons I mentioned. |
