I'll be watching it soon so I'll let you know. I can only compare it to either the DVD or the HD stream from Disney +, though.

If I owned the BD I don't think I'd pay for the 4K version, but coming from DVD it will definitely be a worthy upgrade.

I got burned by redeeming it the same way, via the old Disney Movie Rewards site.

I was bummed by no upgrade and was gonna bite at the $9.99 4K sale, however I watched the new transfer (in HD) via iTunes on Apple TV 4K and it looked GREAT.

Easily the best it's ever looked. I'm sure true 4K HDR will look even better, but im not ready to part with $10 at the moment.

I find that to be the case quite often -- HD usually looks great, so if it's only a slight upgrade, I can save $10. I'd love everything to be 4K to make use of my equipment, but I'm trying to resist double-dipping on digital content

I'm by no means an expert on 4K or the details on video quality like others on here. But I purchased the 4k (also $9.99 on FandangNow) and it looks great! On some titles, I find 4K as 'eh'... Others I say, "wow... That looks great!". I put this in that 2nd "wow" category.

That being said, I'm sure the "HD" version would be just as enjoyable. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but so far, no explosions, car chases, space battles, special effects or shootouts that I find really makes the 4k clarity stand out.

Watching Muppet Cristmas Carol in 4K right now. There's a clear improvement in color, narrator Gonzo is pretty vibrant and Kermit is a blazing green - the hues bring out some of the delightful quirkiness with the muppets (much of the backgrounds and other characters are perhaps intentionally dark and grimy as Victorian England cliches are - paupers and businessmen). As far as detail I can see a clear improvement in clarity; the film has a soft quality that's less harsh in UHD than the HD master but keeps is from being reference. Some of the sweeping shots and backgrounds look softer (but maybe less defined by nature - more like a stage backdrop to pull out the characters in center screen, more improvement to foreground action than the empty backgrounds). The rats are much clearer and standout than in HD in large part because of more detailed color gradients - what I mean is that in HD there is a bit of a 'washed out' overly bright look to some of the dim scenes that looks much better in UHD given more diverse tones and clear visibility. Overall I think it was worth upgrading but your mileage may vary.

Edit: Sword in the Stone UHD is less of an upgrade - brighter colors and perhaps sharper lines but nothing amazing.

I wouldn't get too excited about this if you primarily watch on Vudu. They only have the SD version of the director's cut. I suppose you can buy it and hope Vudu upgrades eventually but I've had it for two years now in SD.

Rather strange of Vudu isn't it. Vudu would ordinarily be my goto on MA titles that iTunes resolutely refuses to put on sale, like this one.

Nice observations. I've wondered about 4k digital upgrades and it sounds like some of these may be new scans, which would explain the differences. I still have a tough time deciding blu vs digital 4k since the latter will have lossy audio. Some folks on here have said to buy a digital 4k with the expectations of a digital 4k as a stong blu with hdr grading and perhaps that's fair. But it does sound like source material may matter more than resolution and bitrates.

You wouldn't have gotten a free 4K upgrade even if you had redeemed in iTunes.

Muppet Christmas Carol was an XML code so it would have redeemed SD.

You wonít get a better price - even if you were to wait for a code in the selling forums. This is a steal for a Disney film

"9" is available in 4K at FandangoNow for $5.00. That's currently 4K exclusive to FandangoNow, but it does port to MA as 4K, and there's reason to believe VUDU will get it in 4K soon as well.

Unfortunately FandangoNow doesn't appear to allow purchasing in 4k if you already own the HD.

There's supposedly a way around that that has been posted on the forum, but the Mods deleted the posts. I've never tried it myself personally, but I may try it one day if VUDU doesn't end up offering those titles shortly.
