It’s a pity that Paramount mucked up this release. While the Blu-ray is an improvement over the DVD but is still not very good. To go to all the effort of producing a good quality Steelbook and still not bother with a new scan even from a 2K restoration is just criminal. Here’s hoping someone else can license this and do a new 4K scan and do the film justice.

I got stuck with this shitty release. Paramount is awful lately with their catalog releases. I was so excited about this and I’m so disappointed with this release. The picture quality is so bad that I’m sticking with the iTunes version. Paramount just doesn’t care about doing quality releases. I only paid $18 for it at a local Target store near me, so I’m out a few bucks. Thanks Paramount for this awful release. It just shows that they don’t care about giving us a quality product.

Thanks, I assumed the discussion was about the US release, being the US discussion thread and all and the poster being in Ohio. I didn't even know Best Buy had UK stores. Regardless, I suspect a re-release will follow in standard packaging here too, 3-6 months after the limited steel sells out. The only question, being Paramount, is whether a future re-release will be pressed or burned. I picked up the current steel anyway. The price is right, even if the presentation isn't. It'll be my first time ever seeing the film. Don't know how it went by unnoticed in the 80s. Hopefully I'll like it as much as The Goonies.

Inconsistent is more like it. They did a tremendous job with The Mexican, despite it being a budget release. I'm not even sure I'll be all that tempted to upgrade to UHD, should such be announced. The BD is that good. But, while their release slate has been exciting, their quality checks have been FAR less so.

On the other hand, thank you Paramount for finally releasing this on bluray.

Thank you Paramount also for the Paramount Presents line. So many titles I thought were never going to be released on bluray...Roman Holiday, The Golden Child and so many more.

Young Sherlock Holmes may not be the best Paramount release but I'm still glad to have the bluray disc.

and I did a return/rebuy at Target at the lower price and with my 5% Red Card discount and Tax it was $15 out the door...nice!

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. This underrated classic deserves a whole lot more respect than it's gotten.

And by all accounts, it's a bad release with very poor picture quality. It's okay to call a company out for a bad release, even if they've had good ones.

Finally watched the Blu-ray and I found it very watchable.

No complaints and I’ve seen worse.

I might try to pick this up this weekend @ Target because of the sale despite the troubling reviews. Also I only need one more punch on my Circle to get a $30 credit, so this might get me over the hump .

Happened with me recently. I ordered Escape From New York 4K and the copy did not have the slipcover and was in a plastic wrap. I removed it and the case was not shrink wrapped. All 3 discs were scratched, so it was someone's return when it was suppose to be new. I asked for a replacement and got a good sealed copy with the slipcover.
