The MGM/UA laserdisc of 2001 was re-released on DVD and contained a nice interview with A.C. Clarke that I don't think exists on other editions. Both that DVD and the previous LD are now out of print.
These are the exact versions I picked up...I was surprised they were only $1 each...

I for one never got into laser disks because they were so big. I was always asking myself why don't they just make them the same size as CD's, then finally years later they have......DVDs were born.

My Definitive Collection is one of the early releases that has missing and poor subtitle captions. I think these box sets went for about $250 when they were released. I was only able to admire them from the other side of the cash register when they were first released.
My three Star Wars Laserdiscs were bought in 1990 for $150 each if I recall, 3 movies at $150 each 20 years ago Too think I find buying a Criterion release at $30 on Blu-ray expensive now

Yeah, I know. Back then you had to really be sure that you were a huge fan of a title to invest in the purchase. I remember buying single 50-min. episodes of The Prisoner TV series for a good $30 each. I never did complete that collection before I switched over to DVD. More recently, I bought the entire series remastered on BD for little over the cost of two episodes on laserdisc in the '90s.

I know this is kind of a broad question, but for those who have a good knowledge of Laserdisc, what are some of the movies that are considered extremely rare?

You'll probably end up with quite a list here. Mentioned above are the Criterion Collection editions of Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Also mentioned above is the Star Wars: Definitive Collection box set.

Among my prized items is the Criterion King Kong (1933) for its historical value. That edition contained the first-ever audio commentary track by Ronald Haver, which has not been reproduced since then. I remember Haver referring to his commentary as a "lecture" on the track. It must have been quite a unique experience to produce that first film commentary.

I bought the entire collection from Columbia House, 1 episode per side... 1 disc per month at $34.95 a pop... it was expensive... So when I hear people complain about $60.00 for the Blu Ray box sets I just laugh.

LD was a blast while it lasted. I sold off many titles but kept all of the classic monster and sci-fi stuff. The CAV of Forbidden Planet had a beautiful package. The 007 boxes were amazing too. I cringe when I recollect what I payed for some of those, although I used to save quite a bit through a site called Ken Crane's, which later became DVD Planet. Getting those big boxes in the mail was a unique thrill for a movie lover.

I've always wanted to get 'The Keep' on Widescreen Laserdisc. It's a pretty expensive title when it comes up for sale though..

They're going for about $100 on ebay. Probably more with the titles you listed.
Although the 2 that are listed have no bids.

I sold my Pioneer LD with Star Wars, ESB, ROTJ, Executive Decision, The Fugitive and True Lies for about $250 before Blu-ray players came out. So...

A few years ago I sold about half of my LD collection to a used book/movie store. I think I got $1-2 dollars for each of them. None of them were collectibles, but I don't know if the dealer would have known what had value and what didn't. Selling your LDs these days is not a lucrative business.

Fortunately, for the few collectors out there, the low buying price means low selling prices in the store for laserdiscs. I've got some amazing deals. A couple of summers ago I couldn't believe seeing a pristine LD of the rare The Keep (1983) staring me in the face for $1.99! People pay crazy prices for that one on eBay. The film is no classic, but it is a memorable B-movie, not available on subsequent formats.
