I was too. I plan on buying the bluray because I havenít seen it in a decade and I doubt it will be that expensive.

One of the greatest animes of all time. Says this guy who blind bought it in the mid 2000s.

So yes.

As I wrote elsewhere:

I'd love to be more specific, but it's been over 11 years and I'm bad at critical analysis unless I take extensive notes while watching the show (which isn't much fun).

No problem. I'm not expecting an analytical essay. I just wanted a one or two sentence summary about why.

Note, this is an OVA that gets better the more you watch and contemplate the deeper themes that are buried within. My first viewing elicited no major reaction, however the second and third viewing was when I finally understood what director Yasuhiro Imagawa had done and how sly he had been.

So, don't be fooled at first viewing that Giant Robo is just a mad aimed-at-kids super-robot show, there is more going on than initially meets the eye.

As some no doubt have noticed, I am a super-fan of this OVA, I genuinely believe that it is one of the greatest Anime productions of all time; right there with Bebop, Macross Plus, Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal and other classics.

Lastly, the art, animation and soundtrack are absolutely top class. If nothing just get it for this. It is beautiful to watch and listen to.

Speaking of analytical essays about Giant Robo, Anime News Network from a few years ago posted a good one.

Read it here.

Long and worthy read for Giant Robo fans.

From the Discotek announcement last month:

The notes about Extras is interesting, I hadn't noticed that before.

I still remember the long wait for the last episode to be released after episode 6's cliffhanger ending (I think it was two years). Paid like $120 for just the final episode on laserdisc and it was worth it! This is a series that starts off a bit slow, but keeps gaining momentum until an epic finale. And of course the animation and soundtrack are among the best you'll ever see and hear in anime.

They keep releasing shows I bought on JP blu-ray not that long ago. May we hope to see them release the holy grail of older shows (no, not Macross) Gunbuster.

Well, they have Diebuster, so it’s a good possibility...

I wonder if that means they'll include the Ginray Special OVA too?

Yes the Ginrei Specials will be included, though they'll be in SD and not HD.

Absolutely.

The GR soundtrack is as good as anything composed in the west, it is just that awesome. I linked some snippets on page 1 of this thread.

Masamichi Amano absolutely killed it with the soundtrack.
