Fake outrage from people that weren't going to spend money on it anyways. One of my friends brought it up to me yesterday. I'm like dude, the "whitewashing" news was a discussion from several months ago. These people aren't even GitS fans and they don't care about it anyways.

If they would have cast some unknown JP actress as the lead then this movie would have made 9mil instead of 18. It's a business ffs. If you don't like it, don't go see the movie or else go make your own.

Anyone that did speak up was called a "phobic" one thing or another....

As an example: The only well know American Actor I can think of to play a Brit. ( chime in if you know of another ) was Robert Downey Jr's Holmes.
And I do recall some blow back from the Brits about that.
( Now I'm talking about recent history, not back in the 30's - 60's etc )

Seems like it's okay for anyone to play an American but, heaven forbid if any American tries to play anything but and American, etc .....

what's super weird are all of those "epic" movies from the mid 2000s like Troy where everyone inexplicably speaks with an English accent.

I know this is being used as an all-purpose GitS thread, but really, the live-action movie stuff should probably remain in its own thread. Lets at least stick to anime here in the anime sub-forum.

Twenty bucks for the lot is hard to pass up. Bummed about the North American sets more than anything. Even something serviceable would have done.

If a dub is fine, it is probably a pretty good way to get it.

A dub is more than fine--it's how I discovered the show. It'll remind me of my long-gone late night cable days.

Edit: Of course I hemmed and hawed so long both seasons are back to full price. Brilliant.

Nope, you are at least supporting the industry and imo that is all that matters. Like you I don't have a big cash inflow so I get what can.

Added recently to iTunes in HD, Solid State Society and 2.0. The Blu-rays for those are fine, but if you like digital copies, they're up there and cheap.

English audio is LPCM stereo, not Dolby Digital (FINALLY!)
The picture is no longer windowboxed, it's full 1.85:1 (which means there's still bars on the top and bottom, but they're very slight.)
The English subs are the same from the previous Bandai Japanese Blu-ray, which is by far superior to the Manga US/UK subs.
The encode is better but don't expect to be completely blown away, as this looks like the same master.
The special features are cool, but no subs.
It's pretty cheap. Got mine for about $30, compared to the older Blu-ray I got years ago for $80 (aren't Japanese prices, grand? And that was the "priced down reissue").

I'd totally recommend picking this one up over any other release around the world.

I was miffed about the English Dolby Digital. Glad it's LPCM like the Japanese.
