Probably how it was mastered I think - eg for 1080i60 broadcast.

What I don't know though is if it is just 30/30 interlaced, or that god awful abomination that was done for NTCS for 24fps source (3:2). If it is just 30/30 it should deinterlace nicely at 30fps in theory. That said, does blu-ray support 1080p30? I believe it doesn't which is ridiculous.

I think from what I can tell that the itunes versions are 1080p though. shame they are dubs though, and the couple of reviews on itunes on the image quality seem suspect.

Pre-ordered 2nd GIG!

One thing that bothers me about the subtitles on season 1 though, is the quotation marks used for emphasis. Have Koreans never seen italics?

Hah hah!

On the sub's, what are they like size and position wise? Funimation like or those awful sentai midtitles?

Not a good idea, unless you enjoy dropped frames and ghosting.

The reason it's interlaced is because portions were originally animated at 30 fps, but the current Blu-ray format only allows for 1080p24 and 1080i60, so 1080i is the only choice that doesn't involve either dropped frames or ghosting.

chronoclast also explained this in response to another Aussie who was asking about it being progressive here, if you're interested.

Yeah it is fine if it is 1080i60 if it is from a 30 fps source and just catering for a blu ray defect. I still just rankle from the NTSC era 60i with the 3:2 pulldown

EDIT: Hmm... It only says Lenticular Box and Lenticular Card - it doesn't really appear that the 7 slips have lenticulars on them this time... OK, the SAC listing doesn't mention it either, but it does shows the 3D images for each, and there's none for 2nd Gig... Can anyone else tell? The slip images they are showing don't look particularly good for 3D. I'll be majorly bummed if the slips aren't lenticlar in this set...

I think they had unexpected success with the 1st GiG so they are rushing out the 2nd GiG to cash in, certainly the second season was announced a lot sooner than even i expected. I really hope they're not cutting corners, but i wouldn't throw a hissy fit if the only thing missing were Lenticulars. The discs themselves are whats important here and if they have both Eng subs and dubs, i'm more than happy.

The Japanese version has always been the best part of $800 and to get this show for half that, and to actually to be a better, that is amazing, i see little hope for a UK/US release, i truly think these are the best we're ever going to get this, to miss out i would be kicking myself for a very long time.

Question about the bonus features in this set; are they subtitled only in Korean?

Well I already own both the JP box sets, so the only reasons I'm buying these is for the subs and the lenticular packaging - so yeah, l will be majorly miffed if there are no lenticulars on the slips in this one...

I can't see what images key714 posted - Invalid Image Reference - so are they an answer to my question?

I think it's folly to 'upgrade' from a set that you spent so much money on just for lenticulars, i would have just stick to what you already have. I just got lucky that i didn't buy the Jap sets because i was weeks away from buying them when i heard about the Korean sets.

But the answer is...?? OK, major-awesomeness - I was able to open the URLs in a separate tab - so they are lenticular... Happy day! Thanks, key!

No, I most likely would have still bought the JP sets along with the Korean sets, even if I knew about the Korean sets ahead of time... my 'folly' is that I like to collect Limited Edition anime with nice packaging, particularly JP releases, strictly as a collector - I will often double- or triple-dip on different versions/country releases of the same anime, so a lot of my duplicate sets might never even get opened for viewing...

Plus, I'm a huge fan of lenticulars, because I am a huge fan of 3D movies and 3D in general. I have a 3D projection theater in my basement and buy all the 3D movies I can, and especially movies with lenticular slips. I even have a full-size, 15 lpi lenticular movie poster in my marquee poster light box in the theater room, it's my pride and joy...

Who am i to tell you what to do with your money, my budget is way more limited so i can't double dip on something so expensive as GiTs TV series, i'm just happy that i was lucky to get the best version. And if you're happy then that what counts

I'm the same way. I try to limit my bluray/dvd buying to things I love, have rewatch value and occasionally blind buys. Shows that I love I will double dip, triple dip and even more if they are in nice collectors editions. I was really happy about the Korean set because I could get that right away but I have been saving for the japanese set and i'm still going to get it. If there is ever a U.S edition I would likely get that as well.

Thanks. Not too bad I guess. Best I can expect without having to personally remaster them. Although given the subs streams are already there, and timed, that would not actually be too hard, now I come to think of it. I should do that with my favorite Sentai titles.

I seriously wish there were blu ray players that allowed you to position subtitles anywhere you want, and change the size. Hell, I'd even settle for "I have zero overscan so show them as low down in the damn picture as physically possible, leaving maybe a 2 pixel margin to the bottom of the screen". It has to be physically possible. I'd pay premium for a player that gave you that control.

My Oppo player allows you to move the position of the subs up and down, in about 10 incremental steps - far enough down that if you're watching a 2.35:1 movie on a 16:9 screen, you can position the subtitles in the black bar below the picture, even - not sure how far up they can go... No size adjustment, though. I would think there would be more brands of players that have this function?

Quote:
Subtitle Shift: To shift the display position of subtitles, please follow these steps:

1. When playing a DVD, Blu-ray Disc or other video programs recorded with subtitles, select the desired subtitle from the disc menu or using the remote. (Please refer to page 31 of thismanual.)
2. Press and hold the SUBTITLE button on the remote control until the "Shift Subtitle Position"prompt appears on the screen.
3. Wait until some subtitle text is shown on the screen. Use the UP/DOWN ARROW buttons tomove the subtitle text to the desired position.
4. Press the ENTER button to set the subtitle display position. Once the "Subtitle Shift" position is set, it is remembered by the player in the Video Setup > DisplayOptions > Subtitle Shift setup menu option. The setting will be applied to subtitles of all DVD and Blu-ray Discs from now on.

You can also change the setup menu item directly. Please refer to the "VideoSetup" section beginning at page 56 of this manual for details.

Wow, thanks. Hmm. I'll have to look into this. That would be brilliant. I'm sick also of the 2.35:1 movies with sub's on the picture.

Just be aware that the Oppo Blu-ray players do start at about $500 and go up from there... I have the BDP-93 player, but that's long discontinued, the BDP-103 is their current "budget" player...
