I will shut up about this Netflix FF stuff for now (after this post) but I will leave you with this thought.

Within 5 years of introducing variable speeds in podcasts, the MAJORITY of people now listen to podcasts at at least 1.25 speed.

A worrying trend and a sign of things to come in the video world.

Podcasts and movies aren't the least bit comparable.

Additionally even though the majority of people listen to podcasts at at least 1.25 speed the option to listen at the original speed still remains, there is no reason to ever remove that option.

None of this is worrying.

Podcasts aren't movies. Listening to them at higher speeds has had no impact on the ability to listen to them at normal speed.

It has not carried over to watching movies, either. Anyone with a Playstation 3 has been able to do this for 13 years and it has had no adverse impact on how anyone watches anything. No one is ever going to force high speed playback upon us.

Your shutting up about this is most welcome, though, as not one single person here, besides you, sees any of this as a threat. Your clamming up, if you even actually do, only means that you have found some other imaginary calamity to obsess about.

However, people who watch Blu-ray on a PS3 are generally going to be quality fans who wouldnít dream of speeding up s film. Netflix and a streaming future 13 years on, is a different prospect.

Heck, some people skipped an entire episode of Stranger things to get to the final quicker. That was documented officially by Netflix.
If thatís not an indication of where we could go with the variable speed topic, I donít know what is.

You guys are comparing audiences from different decades, youngsters donít care that much about films now.

So much for your shutting up. You never do.

"Youngsters" care about films as much, maybe even more, than you do. They attend the cinema in droves; their dollars support film every bit as much, maybe more, than yours do. It can be argued that a real film fan would choose to see movies the way they were meant to be seen: on the big silver screen at the theater. "Youngsters" do exactly that and they do it far more often than I do and I bet far more often than you do. It could be said that they are truer film fans than either of us because they watch movies where they are shown in the best quality: the cinema.

The Playstation 3 was never a videophile's or a cinemaphile's hardware of choice. It was, and is, a home media center designed for playing video games, streaming content, watching discs, and much more. It was used as streaming device, too, not just as a blu-ray player.

The Playstation 3 was a dominant console until at least 2014 when the Playstation 4 gained momentum; it is hardly a relic of a bygone era. Many are still in service, including mine. The PS4 likely retains the PS3's ability to play content at pitch corrected high speed; I can't confirm that as I don't own a PS4.

People have skipped episodes that they dislike since episodic radio and TV shows began. People skip chapters and episodes on discs that they dislike, too. These are known as options. There is nothing sinister about them; they are a good thing. Of the episodes that people do watch, almost all choose to watch at normal speed.

Few, if any, are embracing high speed playback for watching movies and for certain no one is going to force that upon us. Please be a man of your word now and shut up like you said that you would.

Never thought to try that. Is that similar to watching movies at high speed? Keep doing it and Vudu will make it mandatory to watch that way!

Early reviews by whom? Disney shills?

I just finished watching first episode of "See" and it was badass. I'm off to watch first episode of "For All Mankind" and then "The Morning Show."

*I also don't say shills to talk crap about Disney since they will also be getting my money for Disney+, but I saw the negative reviews and they were bogus.

You can't possibly think this is something new, can you? Pick any show ever and I guarantee the ratings for that show were not the same for every episode across an entire season.

I went to Costco for the first time in quite a while. I knew they cut down on physical media aside from books, but damn, this is the entire movie section and video game section at my nearest store.

How do we know the reviews were bogus. I looked at a few reviews (here) and IMHO, they were mixed. I am going to sit on the sidelines for now.

Same with Sam's Club, for certain tentpole movies they will go all out. IIRC, they ask full retail price so I just stick with Amazon.

I could never bring myself to pay an annual membership fee to be a store's customer. Says the guy who has been an Amazon Prime member since its inception.

But, unlike Sam's Club or Costco, being a Prime member is optional as I can shop at Amazon either way. My preferred option is to buy discs from online sellers. Shopping in stores is a pain in the ass, IMO, even before their media sections began to shrink.

There's that word again: options. Aren't they nice to have?

Badass? Or bad? Or even ass?

Yeah, Disney stuff will be good no doubt.

I think Apple will throw money at stuff until they get it right. No interest in their early stuff, it looks lame imo. Plenty of time yet though.

I did. Went to see Doctor Sleep. Enjoyed it. Going to look great on UHD. Some really cool shots. Rebecca Ferguson stole the show.

Bogus or not, For All Mankind just got renewed for a second season. They must be doing something right.

Back from the cinema, are you? Did you watch something nice and apocalyptic? You seem to really like stories with unhappy endings if the ones that you post here daily are any indication.
