When I have a disc that has problems it stops working at a chapter - I then check it on other machines. Sometimes the disc will play on anther machine so I watch it ASAP because its clear the disc is going to die soon and won't work on any player. I suppose given I haven't watched Memories of Murder in years I'll include it on my list of 'priority watch' discs. Though chapter to chapter it was fine (for the moment at least). |

That's exactly what I do

If a disc still plays, say, on a PS3 after you tried watching it unsuccessfully on a regular player, or if it still plays fine on every player you tried it on, VSO will tell you exactly what to except without having to sit through the entire disc. Bad sectors will pop up if the disc is dying but still plays fine on your regular player. Quote:

I wasn't trying to be condescending, but it's a terrible thought...
Let's take my failed CJ Entertainment disc of "Mother." I watched the movie when I bought it, and it played fine. A month or so ago I put it on and now it hangs up. Clearly, it is bad. However, these things don't have an "off" and "on" switch, and I think it's very likely that some of the problem discs will STILL play fine even if you pop them in and watch every second of the movie... BUT they might not play fine a month from now, or a year from now or whenever. Given that, how can we even trust the "good" discs that we have, where it's known that bad copies exist? I'm not pissed off at you - I'm pissed off at the industry. The ones that invented laserdiscs that rotted and went bad, then DVDs (mostly double sided ones) that won't play anymore, and now blu-rays that seem to be dying left and right... but they've got our money, so I guess THEY'RE happy. And for those of us who collect movies (not stream them!) this is JUST what we don't need - a dying industry now saddled with dying product. |

Do you remember what year it was when you got the replacement? And what is the mould IFPI code for the replacement? (the code on the innermost clear plastic ring)

Ok yeah, neither of those is the mould code. Those are both the master code. I think dual-layer discs have the master code for each layer, hence why you're seeing it twice.
The mould code is on the clear plastic literally at the center of the disc. The part that holds onto the hub in a case. It's harder to read but represents the code of the machine that actually physically created this disc. |

I own all first press limited edition from CJ Entertainment. I just checked some discs.
"A Moment to Remember" (CJ013) is the last movie with the mould code IC0Z on the disc. After that the mould code is IC1Z. Last edited by Donnie_Yen; 04-14-2019 at 09:25 AM. |

I checked mine as well.
My copies of "Memories of Murder" (02) and "Haeundae" (05) are replacements and have the codes IC1Z and IC2Z. 03b (the black and white version of "Mother") is IC1Z, but that came out much later so that makes sense. As Donnie_Yen said, the switch-over seems to have happened around "A Moment To Remember" (13), since "Sunny" (14) is IC1Z. However, my copy of "Quick" (15) reverts to IC0Z. From 16 on, my copies of the discs are IC1Z except for "The Tower" (30), "Killer Toon" (32) and "Flu" (35), which are JN61. |

I've just finished watch my Memories of Murder CJ Blu Ray disc and it played fine. Of course that doesn't mean it will play next week or next year. I also tried to read the code on the disc but even with a magnifying glass under a very bright light simply could not. I do suspect its from a later batch only because I didn't purchase it all that long ago and it pretty much became out of print straight after I purchased it from YesAsia.
Same with my B&W Mother Blu Ray which I will do a chapter to chapter check on and if thats fine will watch very soon. Like MoM I purchased Mother (in B&W) from YesAsia just before it seemed to go out of stock. |

Updated the DAMB spreadsheet again.
I re-added User Name field to accompany the new Purchase Place and Purchase Date fields. As neo said it might worth documenting purchase date. So this means that there will be multiple entries for the same title depending on who reports their discs. I have updated my discs where I could. I also updated Notes for my entries to reflect what is wrong with my discs. Lastly, I created a 'Bronzing/Picture Distortion Examples' tab. I uploaded the same picture of five discs, one with camera flash and one without. Four of the five discs have various degrees of bronzing and the fifth (last pic on the right) is a non-bronzed disc. I also uploaded an image of the kind of picture distortion that I am experiencing during playback on bluray or pc drive. This distortion is also present during digital backup copies. I will continue to add titles as I make my way through my collection this week. |

If the distortion occurs even on backups, does that mean all discs should be scanned with VSO Inspector before a backup is made? I mean, otherwise we're all gonna be making corrupt backups... Is it also safe to say that the bad discs were all released prior to 2011? Also, any issues with Deltamac, Mei Ah, Edko, or IVL discs? Last edited by Futurhythm; 04-16-2019 at 07:45 AM. |

I wonder if everything up to "A Moment to Remember" is at risk? I thought I noticed a change in color on the disc for "A Dirty Carnival" first press limited edition. I will have to check again in the next day or so.
