Still working my way through my collection and found another bronzed/dead blu-ray: THE FATAL ENCOUNTER, HK release of the Korean film by Deltamac. Tried to do a backup and it failed. Into the recycle bin it goes

That's considerably later than the rest of the problem discs. Is it actually bronzed or just dead? There are always going to be SOME bad discs, but if it's just a random bad one instead of part of an epidemic, it will be easier to find another working copy at least.

Definitely bronzed, I have seen enough bronzed discs now to be able to spot one immediately

Troubling, though I hope it is still relatively rare and not a huge problem in that time frame. "Bronzing" has happened in so many different places, I don't think they all could be using the same "bad resin" or whatever - it might just be how Blu-rays look when they die a certain way.

Definitely add the IFPI number to the document though.

this is a great thread to learn about the random vulnerabilities of disc formats. everyone who gets excited about any packaging aspect should be pointed in this direction.

There's no way to know if and when a disc may Bronze. But, a pretty package is like a book, always there for you to pick up and read, look at, etc.

Just ship me the package. Screw the disc inside. Just leave it out. Don't need it. It`s all about the looks.

Still hoping for either a re-release or another company releasing Breaking News. My copy is kaput, and it’s a top film that I will want to re-watch again at some point (still got the dvd, but I’d rather watch it on blu).

I recently imported Inside/À l'intérieur, a Bit Wel (Taiwan) disc from 2011 brand new. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Inside-Blu-ray/28505/

Though I don't see any bronzing, I wonder if it's effected enough by bit rot...

Blurays of Johnnie To's Breaking News and Vengeance got bronzed in time. Hopefully, we will see re-issues very soon by CN Entertainment or Panorama.

I wish I had something helpful to add but when this thread got started I just backed up all of my Megastar discs. I feel like anybody interested in buying any Megastar discs should just wait for reissues and not take the risk. It's not a guarantee it'll happen, but CN have been reissuing Mei Ah discs so hopefully someone will start doing the Media Asia stuff.

I've now had two copies of Vengeance bronze on me. At least I've still got the UK release of it.

This stinks. I've just chanced across this thread via Google, after I tried to look up about Kung-Fu Chefs not playing anymore, in case it was a known issue. Just tried to watch my copy for the first time since I bought it, and it won't play at all.
The disc doesn't look particulary 'bronze' but it's a lot less blue than the discs I just compared it with. Very peeved off about this.

It appears to still be in stock online, do I guess it's still in print, but what's the liklihood of a replacement copy suffering from the same problem in time?

Edit - Kam & Ronson website seems not to respond anymore. Nothing on thier FB page in two years. Are they out of business then, and the ones online just old unsold discs?

http://www.kam.com.hk/ loads for me, though it hasn't been updated in years. They've put out a few discs this year.

I'm no expert but I'd imagine over time the same batch would suffer bronzing too. Maybe not quite at the same time, but it's not magically excluded from it happening.

according to YesAsia's webiste, the current copies of Kung-Fu chefs they have, is from a 2019 repress. I was hoping that maybe the problem would have been ironed out by then, as it's nearly a decade after the original one.

Hadn't noticed there was a repress....you should be good then!
