I get that you have your own preferences.

But why not manually calibrate??? You seem clued up enough from your posts I've read in this forum to find calibrating your own distances a doddle, leaving them at 0 is not giving you the very best experience you can get from your equipment.

I'll let my hearing decide on that

I got the x4500 just over a week ago and sounds amazing. The only thing is I am having trouble with dialing-in the sub. I am coming from an Onkyo 757 and the sub sounded awesome with that but can't get it dialed-in with the x4500. I have the same settings I used with the Onkyo and I ran Audyssey. Other than that it sounds amazing.

Sounds a little week and sounds like the highs are coming through. I adjusted the sub gain and the sub setting on the x4500.

is there a reason you chose not to stay with the Denon brand?

We had an lighting storm last night and end up taking out several of my electronics. Mostly my Ethernet devices 24 port switch and other devices connected to it. Ended up loosing my Denon X1300W receiver as well, while the audio works there is no video output. Tried the microprocessor reset but, still no video.

Ended up purchasing the AVR-S750H, also was looking at the X3400H. Hopefully I ended up picking the right one?

Hooked up my 6500 last night and calibrated through audyssey. It recognized all four atmos speakers but the "rear" set did not show as active during playback of 13 hours or bumblebee. The speaker settings are 11.1 configuration and all test tone. Is there another setting i'm missing or does the movie determine if all four atmos or only two engage during playback? TIA!!

Did you look on the Denon screen and see if all the speakers are light up? If not take the remote and hit the green button to cycle through the listening modes.

The rear height speakers only light up when I take it off Dolby atmos using the green movie button by switching to neutral x, etc.

In info screen: Signal says Dolby atmos-true HD, sound says Dolby atmos, input signal also says Dolby atmos.

I apologize as I should have looked at the manual more before posting this question.

Have you got the speaker assignment set up correctly manually? If not it likely won’t detect correctly what Atmos placement you are using.

Sounds like the rears aren’t set up as Atmos speakers and are just being used as bog-standard height speakers hence them only coming to life when a matrixed audio setting like Neural X is used.

I think I figured it out but will need to check when I get home. They are dolby atmos enabled speakers so they need to be set to "dolby sp" and they are set to "height sp" I believe. Lesson learned, read the manual before connecting.

Also the few movies I watched sounded incredible in the incorrect setup, can't wait to hear them when it is 100% correct.

That's what it was, changed from height to dolby speakers and they all show up! Rookie mistake...

The Dolby sp is for the atmos enabled speakers that sit on top of your fronts or surrounds. If you have any speakers in the ceiling or 'height speakers', do not use the Dolby sp tab.

Since many of these extra outputs beyond the 5.1 core from Atmos-enabled AVRs are assignable, I'm sure you still need to tell it Atmos speakers either way because there are many different possible combinations.

Do you have just 2 of those modules sitting on top of your fronts? Or, do you have 2 more also for the surrounds? When I originally bought my 6400, I decided to buy the modules for the front and use 2 heights for the back. IMO, those modules were not doing it for me. I went out and purchased 2 heights for the front and sold the modules. I now have 4 height channels and Atmos really zings around the room when called for. The modules almost seemed drown out by the fronts at times and the sound did not seem to envelope the room as I had hoped. Hopefully your setup pays dividends now.

I have 4 modules set on front and surround but will upgrade down the road when I move and have the $$. Its good enough for now. Just the 6500 itself sounds great in 7.1, better than my old beast onkyo 805 that was still going strong.
