OK yeah I dont have a surround sound setup so I was wondering it it will give the option on the disc if I dont have it. It does in the info tab on PS4.
The first one is confirm 2.0 and the second is 5.1 |

A Dolby Stereo track would be played from the front Right and Front Left channel's. A Dolby Surround track would be decoded by a receiver and would extended to a 4.0 - 5.1 set up. Listening to a Dolby Surround track in direct mode without the processing means you are losing out half the audio experience and more than that, are not hearing the film as originally theatrical distributed/intended. In recent years I've found that I often times actually enjoy the Dolby Surround tracks more than the revised 5.1/7.1 tracks on several releases. Often the Rear channels seem to have more activity on the Dolby Surround audio tracks... or, if not more lively, are better balanced resulting in a more interesting listening experience. |

Yup, sucks. It would be nice if there was enough of us to complain but it's Lionsgate, I doubt they care.

The only real reason to set your ps3/4 to 2.0 is when you notice problems hearing dialog on your tv's speakers. A 2.0 audio track may produce easier to understand/hear vocals compared to a 5.1/7.1 track on a 2.0 set up. |

It's always a shame when corners are cut and/or errors of a substantial nature occur to the audio/picture on releases like this, but overall I agree. This is a collection I've hoped would happen for several years and will happily revisit even in it's current release state.

Sure but the whole thing with blu-ray was supposed to be to replicate the theater experience as closely as possible. I understand not everything can be a 4k scan due to cost but leaving off a 5.1 track? You almost have to try and screw that up.

I've never really cared about the audio aspect of home cinema. Right now I'm using a stereo receiver connected to a pair of Onkyo towers which pretty much tear the walls down even with the volume at lower levels and I'm more than satisfied with that. I probably wouldn't have even sent in for that Black Christmas replacement disc had I not been curious if I'd actually get one.

As I'm a completionist, I was compelled to pick up the Wishmaster set sight unseen. Never saw them back in the day, I was only vaguely aware of the series and couldnt tell you thing one about it - well, until I spun up the first one today.
Actually pretty good! The gore effects were not over the top, but still pretty effective. And how could you not love a skeleton that tears itself out of the man and then attacks everyone around him. The female lead was pretty bland, but the man-skin Djinn was the right measure of smarm and charming - almost a pre-wacky Freddy Kruger. And damn, Kane Hodder's death was brutal! Not the best horror flick I've seen, but not that bad either. Reasonably entertaining, not super memorable. Looking forward to sampling 2-4. |

Okay, I'll admit - that scene was pretty funny.
Actually overall, I'd say that 2 was better than the first one. None of that messy exposition-dump to get in the way of the story. The information we needed to know was handled better the second time around. The Goth Chick was a stronger lead this time too - not fantastic, but pretty good. And of course The Djinn (without makeup) hams it up deliciously. But wow - those 1997 CGI effects didn't age well, tho. That was some loopy computer graphics! Less gore too - well, aside from a couple of spots at the end and Mr Bars at the beginning. I would have figured that we'd gotten more being a direct to video. But they did dial up the dark humor, so I appreciated that. Overall, we're two for two out of the set. Hopefully the trend continues and I like the other two. But that's for tomorrow night. |

The difference you see in the graph is just phase manipulation so the rears don't play what amounts to a mono surround track. Modern upmixers do that on the fly. Nothing is wrong. |

I watched the first one over the weekend, and I used the ProLogic II setting on my receiver to make the 2.0 track surround sound. It did sound good and seemed to properly send the surround sound effects to specific speakers, but I did have to raise the volume higher than what I normally have it set on because the dialogue seemed a bit low in places.

extras look good on the review, but PQ improvement is a letdown.
