Default Time of EVE: The Movie on Blu-ray - Kickstarter Campaign

Time of EVE Kickstarter link

Well, It's getting close to release time for the EVE no Jikan/Time of EVE Kickstarter Blu-ray, so I thought I'd get a thread going in here a while... The international Blu-ray with the first-ever English Dub was supposed to release this month, and the English Fan Book in February... Do we have many folks on the forum here that are participating in this campaign? I'm getting anxious now, it's been a long, patient 7 month wait since the pledging opened...

"Are you Enjoying the Time of EVE?"

Update #23 just posted today...

Quote:
English voice cast and…delay

It is January, the promised delivery date. And it pains us enormously that we aren't ready to ship the Blu-ray this month. We are working hard to get the 100+ subtitle files into tiptop shape, polish the English translation of Yoshiura's short story for the bonus book, and NYAV Post is now tackling the final audio mix for the English dub.

We are aiming to get all of the materials together for the Blu-ray authoring by January 21st, and if all goes well, we will ship in February. We fully accept your ire and disappointment. If you are understanding, we accept that with gratitude.

English Voice Cast!

Thank you all for giving Time of EVE a life of its own in English. The English-language performance would NEVER have happened without your support, and we hope you share our delight with the calibre of the cast.

• Rikuo: Yuri Lowenthal
• Masaki: Michael Sinterniklaas
• Nagi: Stephanie Sheh
• Sammy: Elizabeth Boyle
• Akiko: Cassandra Lee Morris
• Koji: Derek Stephen Prince
• Rina: Lisa Ortiz
• Setoro: Patrick Seitz
• Shimei: George C. Cole
• Chie: Alice A. Johnson
• Katoran: Sean Schemmel
• THX: Casey Mongillo
• Naoko: Molly Kay
• Ashimori: Cindy Robinson

Odds and Ends

• Sony Music granted us the worldwide rights to Kalafina's "I have a dream," and so the soundtrack will be 100% complete!
• Director Yoshiura approved the HD upconvert of "Pale Cocoon" and "Aquatic Language." And so, the 2 shorts will be on the Blu-ray resized for HD.

I'm at the $145 cup/saucer/canister Lot #2 level in the Kickstarter. One set was enough for me; I'm not a coffee drinker, so it's ornamental. ^^; I received my copy of the ONA/OVA Blu-ray from AmazonJP back on the release date of 25 Jan 2011. I fell in love with the ONAs after watching them on Crunchyroll. I downloaded a 25GB fansub of the movie, but never watched it, hoping for a proper subtitled Blu-ray release...

I'm _really_ looking forward to getting the movie BD, fan book, etc. ^_^

Yep, I'm at the $145 level as well, got my cup/saucer/canister set back in October, and I also bought a bunch more, as I posted up a while back on the main Anime thread. Heheh, I'm sure I'll want to repost all the photos here, though...

I also got a copy of the OVA import Blu-ray, but only just a few weeks ago, during the 12-days sale at RightStuf - they had it available for a very short time for just $24, so I figured I'd get a copy before it went completely bye-byes... and I have a couple of fansubs that I have been watching until the Kickstarter Blu-ray gets here.

Well, the only thing is, it's been fairly quiet on the Kickstarter page, so I don't know if the release will be delayed any further or if they're still on schedule...

According to a backer update that was posted on fandom post, they are hoping to start shipping the blu-rays out in February.

This is not related to the Kickstarter blu-ray, but does anyone know if any of the following blu-rays contains English subs?

I see the Update was just posted today; I reposted most of it above in the second post...

Since that's the case, they may as well just ship the Blu-ray and the Fan Book (for those getting it) together at the same time, in one package...

No, they are Japanese language with no subtitles. The only one with English subtitles is the OVA Import Blu-ray, with this cover:

Yeah, The original ship date was October 2013, then January 2014, then February, March, then they just gave up on making predictions...

Well like I just posted in the main comment thread on the Kickstarter page last night, I'm hoping this last 5 weeks of silence from them is because they are finally wrapping things up, and are soon going to announce they are ready to ship everything out... at least, that's what I would do if I was them - if I knew the ship date was going to be 6-8 weeks out from the last public update - I'd skip the following monthly update and just keep quiet about it until everything was ready to go a couple weeks later, then make the big announcement out of the blue... Suspense!

At, least, I sure hope that's what they're actually doing...

I'm in 4 anime Kickstarters right now, and this one is by far the one I'm the most excited about over the others. I'm patient; I see from the last few updates what kind of quality we're going to get with this release, and I couldn't ask for a better production than what they are doing, other than the delay in getting it shipped because they want it to be perfect. And they sure as heck aren't spending all their pledge money on oddball additions like the stuff they're including with the Bubblegum Crisis Kickstarter... pdf manga files and a challenge coin... woo hoo.

I'm fine waiting for a quality product - Studia Rikka has shown they care about the release and are doing a great job in making a quality product. Time of Eve (and all included content) is being dubbed in English along with being subtitled in 10 different languages, the Fan Book is translated to English, previous works of Pale Cocoon and The Water Aquatic are being included, the Soundtrack is being included, and they are double checking and proofing everything. It will be released when it's released, and it will be a very high quality release.

With Bubblegum Crisis, I'm like whatever, it will be released when it's released as well...but AnimEigo doesn't truly give too much care about a quality release for an "Ultimate Edition" it seems.

New update posted with a bunch of product design pics. Unfortunately can't post them from my phone right now but a speed bump was mentioned for the subtitles which means this is going to take a while longer.

This seems like it will be a hell of a disc...I'd want it just to scan it and pick it apart technically.

Too bad I had no idea this even happened.

Update #31
Jun 5 2014

Quote:
Packaging!

Dear Backers,

As promised, this update is dedicated to the packaging.

Where we're coming from

Producer Tom Nagae set a minimalist look for Time of EVE with the 6 single-episode DVDs, which were designed by Tsuyoshi Kusano.

Now, if this International Blu-ray release were handled by an outside distributor, most likely you'd get an entirely new interpretation of the package design. However, Tom Nagae felt strongly about keeping the same tone for this International Blu-ray release, and having Tsuyoshi Kusano on board to handle the design was an absolute must.

We used Kusano's design for the Japanese Blu-ray movie release as a departure point.

That being said, we felt like the Japanese Blu-ray release was a bit too much like a straightforward retail product. The Japanese movie release was handled by Asmik Ace, and they were thinking about how the Blu-ray product would look on a retail shelf--a completely understandable focus. DIRECTIONS, however, prefers to create packaging that expands on the Time of EVE story world, such as android specs on the reversible slipcovers for the ONA/6 episodes Blu-ray (released straight from DIRECTIONS).

Design concept

After a lot of brainstorming, we decided to design this International Blu-ray release as an extension of Yoshiura's short story act0.5:SAME, which is included in the Bonus Book (formerly the "Art Book").

Package elements

The package elements are the result of extensive back-and-forth among Yoshiura, designer Tsuyoshi Kusano, producer Tom Nagae and associate producer Yuji Abe@DIRECTIONS, the printing/replication house Reel Pictures, and myself, Ann@Pied Piper. These are the final designs, with the exception of the questions we've asked below about the belly band and posters.

(1) Slipcover

The slipcover uses an illustration of SAMMY that appears in the Japanese edition of the Bonus Book. Here you see her asleep in hospital garb, a scene drawn directly from the act0.5:SAME short story.

BTW, for the slipcover, we went through 3 tests with Reel Pictures. This final version uses side flaps to reinforce the front and back covers, and is a close approximation of the slipcover that Asmik Ace used for the Japanese Blu-ray movie release.

(2) Bellyband

The Bellyband for the UK will include the BBFC age rating (on the front and back), which we are required to include for local shipments within the UK. For EU backers who reside outside of the UK, we will ship you the version without the BBFC age rating.

Question: Should we include the "Funded with Kickstarter" green logo on this bellyband?

(3) Digipak

For the exterior image, character designer Ryusuke Chayama modified SAMMY's illustration so that her eyes are open. The interior of the digipak has Shiotsuki's android training records, and his handwritten notes from debugging an AI sequence (inspired by Alan Turing's notebooks). These design elements are all rooted in the act0:5:SAME short story.

(4) Disc faces

"Minimalist" sums it up. The Blu-ray disc for the UK will include the BBFC age rating -- for EU backers who reside outside of the UK, we will ship you the version without the BBFC age rating.

(5) 56-page Bonus Book
(formerly 40-page Art Book)

We think you will recognize this book cover^^. This copy of the book comes from Dr. Ashimori's lab library at the APC, and the registration number happens to coincide with the birthday of one of Yoshiura's favorite authors.

The Bonus Book includes:
•Interview with Yoshiura and producer Tom Nagae, and comments from production staff
•6 new sketches by Chayama (from the Kickstarter artwork), and 1 brand new illustration
•Soundtrack liner notes: track list, lyrics (Japanese, romaji, English), and essays from Yoshiura and composer Tohru Okada
•Yoshiura's "act0.5:SAME" short story

(6) 8 Postcards

These images were originally used as character cards, and were included in sets of 2 with purchases from the DIRECTIONS webshop (now closed). This Kickstarter is the first time these images are being released as a complete set. These postcards will ship together with the Blu-ray.

(7) Special Thanks

These 4 pages will be folded in half, and will ship together with the Blu-ray.

(8) Print (for $100+ backers)

The print will be 8 1/2 x 10 inches, the US equivalent of A4, and will ship in its own mailer (either a tube, or flat envelope with cardboard backing).

We have 4 mock-ups, and we'd love your feedback.

BD-R check

We hit a speed bump with the movie subtitles. More in the next update.

It has been our dream come true to create a package design that embodies the original aesthetic, and that is rooted firmly in the story world. It is our greatest hope that the design pleases you. m{..}m Time of EVE

I'm sorry, but I'm going to rant now... I'm so dang tired of seeing Sammy's image all over everything, both on previous releases and now this one. No love at all for Nagi, who I consider the actual main female character of the show...

I'm still very upset over them changing the Nagi print to a Sammy print on a whim - Gah! enough already!

And that damn boring bland white background on everything, same as the OVA Import - I wanted to see some nice color on my cover, not bare minimalism - again. Very disappointed in the packaging, for an ultimate edition. Nothing special here.

Disappointed in cover art, but then I guess they're trying to stay consistent with the Japanese release's theme.

Has it occurred to anyone that this is nearly shipping now and we still don't have an entry for it here on the site?

Finally an update and a shipping date:

*

Project Update #34: Blu-ray package shipping update

*For backers only*Posted by Pied Piper / DIRECTIONS / Studio Rikka*♥ Like

Dear Backers,

We have a production update on the Blu-ray package and revised shipping dates.*

Blu-ray discs*

We got the check disc from Reel Pictures. It is flawless--thank you, Justin Sevakis! Creating the Blu-ray has been complex beyond belief, and the fact that the BD disc is complete…well, it feels close to miraculous.*

Check disc from Reel Pictures

Packaging

We spent July troubleshooting the Digipak, postcards, and Bonus Book. Issues:

(1) Digipak:*There hasn't been a digipak release of*Time of EVEin Japan, so unlike the slipcover and bonus book, we didn't have a benchmark sample to work from. Initially we were planning to go with the standard 18pt card stock proposed by Reel Pictures. However, we fell in love with the card stock used for theJapanese digipak release*of Mamoru Hosoda's*Ookami kodomo no*ame*to yuki, and in late June we made the decision to upgrade to 24pt card stock. Unfortunately, this also meant that Reel Pictures needed to get a new CAD sample for the digipak, and resize the slipcover and bellyband (that wraps around the bottom of the slipcover). This delay is entirely our bad--we should have made the final decision on upgrading the card stock months earlier. Here's the CAD sample of the upgraded Digipak:

CAD sample of Digipak - 24pt card stock

revised CAD sample, next to Japanese "Time of EVE" release

*(2)*Envelope for postcards:*We were planning to put the postcards inside the slipcover with the digipak and bonus book, but after talking this through with Reel Pictures, we decided to put the postcards in their own separate envelope. We needed extra time to get the custom template from Reel Pictures and make sure that DIRECTIONS and Studio Rikka were happy with the design.*Again, this setback is our bad.

Envelope for postcards (red lines are from the template, and won't print)

(3) Bonus Book:*We had always planned on doing the Bonus Book with*perfect binding, rather than*saddle stitching. However, Reel Pictures' art department had us set up the Bonus Book files in printers' spreads (see images below) for saddle stitching. It wasn't a huge deal to reorder the pages sequentially for perfect binding, but it took some back and forth to make sure we had the file set up correctly.*

Printers' spreads page order

Section of Bonus Book in printers' spreads layout

Production Status

Finally, 100% of the packaging elements are in*production*at the printers. The remaining steps: assembly of the package and fulfillment/shipping.

Assembly Schedule

August 26th: Delivery of printed materials to Reel Pictures*

September 8th: Reel Pictures finishes package assembly

Fulfillment/Shipping Schedule

US shipments: sent directly from Reel Pictures via USPS first class mail, September 9th - 15th

EU shipments (including UK): master cartons shipped from Reel Pictures to UK warehouse on September 9th; estimated shipping date from UK warehouse: September 24th*

Other international shipments (including Canada): we have learned that Reel Pictures can't quickly process international shipments, so Shawne Kleckner at*Righstuf*is going to handle these rewards. Master cartons shipped to Rightstuf on September 9th. Estimated shipping date from Rightstuf: September 24th*

We have now cleared all of the major production hurdles, and do not anticipate that these shipping dates will be pushed further.

Address Updates

Please send mailing address changes (via Kickstarter message or to info@timeofeve.com) by August 25th!

We are certain you didn't back this project to have your patience tested to this degree. Thank you for…enduring. We hope that it all feels worth it when you receive your Blu-ray package.

Ann/Time of EVE^^
