I can see him doing it on the moon though, I doubt the third movie will take place on Pandora itself.

I get that some people rag on Cameron for his plot lines, but in my opinion, no one cares more about their movies as much as James Cameron. Every freaking thing about avatar just proves the guy agonizes over his work. Michael bay needs to take notes

Well said. I'm wondering if he'll film this particular section LAST on the schedule, in case something goes wrong (). But then again, he'd still have to do post-production & all the editing as well, so IF anything happens, who would he possibly entrust to finish the film? Sorry to sound morbid but going down that far, even with Technology much better than 50 yrs ago when someone last went (for a Whole 20 Minutes), nothing is ever 100% safe. I wonder how much film he plans to shoot down there. See what's there & just shoot a couple hours to use however he deems necessary?

Why go to all the expence of building a sub to go and get footage for a movie when you could do it with an rov for a fraction of the cost. What exacty is going to be filmed in total darkness? the only lights will be on the sub and they will only be good for about 10'. I think this is more a publicity stunt than getting footage for the next avatar.

My second thought was, wait, Avatar being filmed on actual organic real-world locations?
Are we talking about the same movie franchise??

I would say it is more that he wants to go there and getting shots for the sequel is the best excuse to go lol.

Plus he probably gets FOX to foot the bill to boot.

So, Cameron wanted to do an underwater movie "anyway", got the studio to pay his expense account, and threw the entire movie sequel in that direction as an excuse?

I smell the early warning signs of Same-Director-Sequel Syndrome...
(Ie., where a director handed the keys to his own box-office-breaking sequel throws the entire story franchise out the window and turns it into his own self-indulgently scattershot vanity home-movie--
See related listings under "Lost World", "Batman Returns" and "Transformers 2". )

Default James Cameron Will Shoot ‘Avatar 2 and 3′ Back-To-Back

Cameron confirms what was rumored a while back.

Quote:
“Our plan right now is to do ['Avatar 2 & 3'] as a single large production and release them a year apart. In order to do that, we have to refine our technical processes beyond the end of where we were finishing ['Avatar'] a year ago. We need to future-proof ourselves out five or six years to the end of the third film.”

that would depend on what 3d tv you have . If it is a panny it will be next year if it is something else it will probably be about 6 months to a year later .

Hopefully he focuses more on story this time. Avatar was a visual marvel and Im sure its sequels will top it (if thats even possible) but the story was weak. Avatar 2 should give the Navi some real characterization beyond being simple noble savages and should have villians which are not one dimensional anti-corporate cliqhes.

I guess that this is a good place to stick this.

From Marketsaw-

Cameron Talks AVATAR, TITANIC 3D And CLEOPATRA!

- James Cameron talks to the NYTimes about the AVATAR Disc Release, TITANIC 3D and whether or not he will do Sony's CLEOPATRA (he doesn't know). Cameron says: "There’s a Cleopatra project in work, meaning that it’s been in development at Sony. And it’s a subject that’s always fascinated me. So yeah, I’ve been talking to them about it but no decisions have been made. But it sounds hot, doesn’t it? I mean, Angelina Jolie and Cleopatra? To me, that’s like a slam dunk."

Personally I think the CLEOPATRA movie should be produced by Cameron as I am kinda selfishly wanting him to focus on AVATAR or BATTLE ANGEL, but I can clearly see why he wants to do it - the movie would be EPIC.

.

What a guy!

Arrow Official: Avatar 2 and 3 set for 2014/2015 Release (Shooting confirmed 2011)

Source

Quote:
It may be a no-brainer but it's officially official now: Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are happening, and are set for release in 2014 and 2015 after shooting back-to-back, with production set to start next year. James Cameron officially, 100% announced today that they will be his next films, but has not yet confirmed titles or any other details.

The news means that we have some exciting Christmases lined up for the next few years. This year we've got the new Narnia and Tron; next year it's Puss In Boots and Sherlock Holmes 2, then there's two years of The Hobbit planned for 2012 and 2013, and after that two Decembers rich in Avatar. It's like Santa's pulling the strings at Hollywood's big studios.

Rest assured that we'll be keeping an eye on this one as it goes forward. Y'know, probably. If we have a minute.
