"Thanks to advanced technology and the expert work of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging (MPI), audiences will now be able to experience the classic mystery shocker as it was originally seen in theaters. Originally designed to lure audiences away from their TV sets, the 3D involved in the film's original presentation utilized a "left-eye/right-eye" dual projection process and polarized glasses, the basis for what is seen today. MPI''s work on House of Wax includes a 4K scan, and a full restoration of the two "eyes," as well as perfect 3D image alignment." If it's such a niche thing that there's no money to make in it, then why is House of Wax being given so much care? And Amityville 3D? And Creature form the Black Lagoon? |

People hate that people are discussing things in a discussion thread. The release is months away - there will be plenty of newbies in here by then going over the same things all over again. I guess it's better for 100 pages of "Just ordered mine!! WB rocks!"? Last edited by mar3o; 07-03-2013 at 02:23 AM. |

Do you really, really think that the studios don't do market research and know why people aren't buying their products? Really? News flash - studios are well aware of why their sets sell or don't sell. There was some major commotion over the upcoming vol. 2 set of Tom and Jerry over 2 shorts that were not being included in the set due to "offensive" material - and fans naturally went ape over it. There were lots of complaints, and lots of Amazon 1-star reviews, and the next thing you know, the set's release date was delayed and they're discussing the situation. They knew all about the fan backlash and realized that not including those 2 shorts after promising the "complete collection" uncut was just asking for the sales to tank, so they took action. It's not irrelevant, if the unrated version is only available currently on DVD, if it's not going to be included on the upcoming blu-ray, if that's the version everyone prefer.

It one thing to fix something that you have complete control of, which Warner does with their Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry films. (The HD transfers of the specific cartoons have been done for over a year... Marketing is too scared to release them.) With Friday the 13th, they have a very limited window, and are looking to maximize their profits and quickly. The only elements they own outright are JGTH, Jason X and Freddy Vs Jason. Everything else is coming from Paramount, which has been pointed out about 1,000 times to you. The 1080P HD Left Eye/Right eye master DOES NOT EXIST for Friday the 13th Part 3! And in WB and Paramount's opinion, is not worth the cost for the extra 5,000 sales. (If they sell more than 50,000 copies of this collection, they're going to ecstatic.) fitprod Last edited by fitprod; 07-03-2013 at 05:37 AM. |

If something is advertised as 'complete', but in reality isn't then people have a right to complain. Also, something is being left off because it may cause offence to a group of people. Lots of shows/movies feature scenes that are offensive to people but that doesn't mean they should be excluded from release otherwise there'd be nothing on DVD shelves. Certain Tom & Jerry cartoons, just like Song of the South are products of their time and should be viewed as such. It's unfortunate we still have any form of racism (as well as ageism, sexism and homophobia etc. etc.) in this day and age, but this shouldn't be taken into account with releases that fans are after. If anything, it gives the studios the chance to produce special features discussing the issues and changing times. At the very least, put a warning at the front. Universal still released Son of Dracula despite racial stereotypes featuring quite heavily. How about the 40's Batman serial with it's less than flattering views of the Chinese? We can buy that if we want. Back to Friday the 13th... I'm in 2 minds on some of the points. First of all, I'm a firm believer that theatrical versions should always be presented on home video first and foremost. As such, JgtH should have any uncut version as a bonus feature, it shouldn't replace the theatrical cut. Same for any other part in the franchise. Was Part III made in anaglyph 3D? If so, then that's how it should be offered (with the 2D version obviously). Just because it can now be transfered to 'real 3D' doesn't mean it should be. As a bonus, perhaps. But as a default option, no. In terms of packaging, I'd certainly rather it featured an earlier, or more iconic, Jason. I'd also like to see a font used that's more appropriate. Didin't they use the blocky 3D type logo for the first 3, or was it 5? Then the more famous paintbrush style from 4 to 8. Either would do, but I'd use the one that matched the image of Jason. If they used Richard Brooker then the 3D logo, Kane Hodder etc. the paintbrush logo. What we seem to have is a JgtH image with the remake logo. That's just wrong. The above is of course, just my opinion. Last edited by tenderheartbear; 07-03-2013 at 05:43 AM. |

The process used a film strip with one of the frames sharing the frame of film with the one for the other eye for that frame (ex. frame one of the film contained both left eye frame one and right eye frame one), which led to full-color images displayed in theaters using the same technology as today, more or less (although I think things such as alignment have improved). For added trivia fun, this process produced scope images in order to fit them both to the film, which is way this one has a different aspect ratio than all the rest (at least until Freddy vs. Jason & the remake, of course) |

Creature from the Black Lagoon was from Universal... again, has nothing to do with Warner or Paramount, so moot point. House of Wax is from Warner, but it is their movie to release... so, (wait for it) moot point! The Friday the 13th 1-8 movies in this set are Paramount... and Warner has a 3-year temporary home video release license on these movies... Warner doesn't own the source, and isn't putting money into transfers... they are only releasing transfers already paid for by Paramount. Warner might would release Friday the 13th in real 3D IF it was their movie... but it isn't... so... no need to compare it to House of Wax or any other example. Oh, trust me... companies know all too well about the internet... and the freak-outs... and the pettiness and the circles and pages upon pages of flame wars about stuff that hasn't even come out yet... Companies know to take everything on the internet with a grain of salt and then some! Quote:
We may think there are a lot of us here online... but we are a VERY small amount of the people in this country (and the world for that matter) that are purchasing the products. Quote:

Guess what happened? Studios ignored those 1-star reviews and flame wars and released those sets as planned and made lots of money! Who knows what happened with Tom & Jerry... but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Amazon reviews that changed anything. |

I had asked WB in regard to rated/unrated cuts and some other questions and this is what I just got:
We’ll look to get you some answers as soon as possible. It’s Holiday week here but we’re on it for you. So I assume we have to wait a few more days... |
