"GKIDS is proud to announce the acquisition of the North American home video and theatrical rights to NEON GENESIS EVANGELION.

Properties included:
▸ NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (26 ep. TV series)
▸ EVANGELION: DEATH (TRUE)²
▸ THE END OF EVANGELION"

Death(True) is also included, but for those who don't know, it's basically a re-cap of the series and the first half of The End of Evangelion.

When do you think we will see the original series on BD? I really like the Rebuild films, but I love the original!
I own the Platinium col. on DVD and it could look amazing in HD.

It won't happen until at least after the Rebuild films are finished.

I hope Funi doesn't get the series. Having to wait for 3.33 is really annoying and having each release in a different package that is doesn't match the others is the main reasons I hope if TV does get a BD Funi doesn't get it unless they step up more.

If I was wealthy and had the means I would put out a complete box for all related Eva movies, TV the Symphony Concert and other videos and call it ~The Complete Hideaki Anno Vision~

and that would be the final and ultimate release. I will probably keep buying this again and again before I pass on into the next life

Well, it's going to be Funimation. Nobody else has deeper pockets in North America right now. Likely a two cour release, with a LE box option for a few dollars more.

I'm sure we don't have 3.33 yet because of licensing issues. Can't really fault them for that.

Actually there is apparently a dub issue that needs to be fixed before 3.33 can be released.

Ah, I thought maybe they accidentally got the master for the TV-censored version - you know, the one with the little flying saucers hovering over all the most interesting parts...?!

From neoz in the upcoming titles thread:

Also I didn't catch it until now, but Madman(Australian anime publisher) said the audio wasn't mixed properly with Funimation's Evangelion 3.33 dub(since they use the same dub). Which apparently wasn't caught until around the time of the release in theaters. At this point, they have to go back and redo the dub in order to correct it(since it can't be fixed apparently). So that's probably what is holding up the DVD/BR release.

Personally I think Sentai Filmworks(or 1 of the other Section 23 Divisions like maybe Maiden Japan) will get the series. They missed their chance with the Rebuild movies, since Funimation beat them to the punch thanks to ADV Films struggles in 2008 and 2009. But Sentai is very much alive and really love the Evangelion series. Maybe even obsessed with it.

As long as the original negatives still exist overseas in Japan, and they do a proper scan of the film elements instead them just doing a sloppy Q-tec blowjob after the rebuilds are over, then yes, I would love to have the original Evangelion TV series on BD. Though I have to admit I really want to see a Blu-ray release of EoE, as it was done on 35mm, which means it would look freakin' glorious in HD. Also wouldn't mind a few a of the cast members getting a re-dub to keep the voices more consistent, since Mungas release was pretty goddamn horrid.

Rightstuf's product page for 3.33 says:
"Note: This item's release has been delayed to accommodate the theatrical run of the film."

But I don't how old that is or if it's accurate at all.
