That's total bullshit! Since I have the HK release of it I really don't care any more.

Amen to that. I might pick up the US 3.33 release (if it ever gets released) during TRSI's Christmas sale, but there's no way I'm rewarding the bozos @ Funi by paying regular price on the eventual release date.

Though I have to admit I really want to see a Blu-ray release of EoE, as it was done on 35mm, which means it would look freakin' glorious in HD. Also wouldn't mind a few a of the cast members getting a re-dub to keep the voices more consistent, since Mungas release was pretty goddamn horrid.
The TV series received a new HD master for the last DVD release (the "Renewal" version) and new 5.1 audio. If I remember correctly, this remaster cost more than the series itself cost to produce. They even fixed a lot of the frame "wobble" that was in the old masters. They have an HD master ready to be slapped on BD - they're just waiting for the right time. I would be really surprised if they went back and did another new scan.

Interesting. I wasn't aware that there was a better remaster than the Plantinum col.

Technically, ADV's Platinum Collection is derived from Renewal of Evangelion. There are some minor differences between the two (IIRC, Renewal has a slightly more opened frame and sharper picture), but in the big picture they're identical.

To be clear, the remastered version was released on DVD (in Japan) in 2003. I'm just speculating that they might use those same masters when they eventually release the series on Blu-ray. It worked for Lucas and Star Wars.

Also ADV release is interlaced while R2J DVDs are progressive.

It's been a while since I"ve watched them, but I've always been pretty darn happy with how the Platinum release looked.

End of Evangelion on the other hand DESPERATELY needs a new release outside of Japan. That one should have much higher priority imho.

I like to imagine my eva 3.33 and Sankerea blurays are sitting in a crate somewhere ready to ship out while funimation is putting all its focus on gouging us on Attack on Titan Blurays.

Oh and I would love to see the original series on bluray, When I clicked on this I though your were going to tell me that it was on its way and got my hopes up, shame on you. If Funi gets it, we might see a bluray but it will just be an upscale.

It was never a pretty DVD, but at least when it came out most people had SDTV sets, so a lot of what was ugly was not obvious (my 1988 Magnavox has no resolution and reds bled all over the place, so I never saw what the big deal was). I popped it in a couple years ago on an HDTV set, it's like watching a VHS cassette, mostly thanks to the lack of it being anamorphic.

I don't see why that would automatically be the case.

Oh it was pretty obvious, even back then on my ~1994 JVC. The US DVD and Japanese Rebuild remaster are like night and day.

The US release actually used the same master as the original non-anamorphic Japanese DVD release from 1999 (KIBA-105), but with a ton of filtering added. The thing is that the US DVD was released in September 2002, but wouldn't be until June 2003 that the JP Renewal release was put out.

That said, what I want more than anything else is an improved translation for EoE, especially when it incorrectly translated Misato's dialogue explaining the nature of Adam vis-a-vis Lilith...

Another thing that would be nice for the inevitable BD release is for Revival of Evangelion (i.e. the 1998 theatrical re-release consisting of Evangelion:Death[True]², Air, and Magokoro wo Kimi ni in one program) to finally be presented contiguously on a single disc. The JP Renewal release had to split it into two discs (Death on one, Air/Magokoro wo Kimi ni on the other) since there wasn't enough space on a dual-layer disc for the entire film. This way the ~4 minute intermission after Death's ED credits wouldn't be interrupted by all the redundant studio logos before Air starts.

Since Gainax is taking forever to remaster the Evangelion series on Blu-ray I went ahead and bought the Platinum Collection (Singles) which cost me £20.13 in total.

I've gotta say that the remastered version of Platinum (known as Renewal in Japan) looks spectacular and if Gainax did a remaster this awesome in HD I would definitely go for it.

I love that every single Platinum DVD came with a booklet and if I end up selling my Platinum Collection DVDs I'll keep the booklets for myself, BUT only if a Blu-ray release of the TV series actually existed. I'm very happy with the Platinum DVD release.

By the way, stay the hell away from the Perfect Collection DVDs!

Some years ago it was made known that the series wouldn't be released on Blu-ray until after Rebuild finished, so we will be waiting at least another 2 to 4 years if that holds up.

Oh don't forget that Gainax retitled the newer film to EVA:3.0+1.0 so they really don't wanna let go off these too easily.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about these rebuild 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and so on all that I want is the TV series remastered in HD on Blu-ray.

It's the newer one that's supposed to come out in 2015.

Instead of 4.0 it'll be 3.0+1.0, just Gainax trolling their fans. But at least it's the final one of the Rebuild or so they say.

Evangelion 3.0+1.0. What. Gainax, why you do this. Maybe it makes sense, since the whole thing will probably come full circle to its beginning, connecting in some way or another to the series. But damn, Gainax. This is low, even for you.

OK, 2015. If the series is still planned for Blu-ray after the last movie, I wasn't too off in my prediction of 2-4 years. 2016 will be the release of the 3.0+1.0 Blu-ray, so 2017 or 2018 for the series.
