Hopefully by 2016-17 Gainax announces they're working on remastering the Evangelion series in HD for a Blu-ray release.

I wish I had gotten the thin-pack Platinum Evangelion release because they're altogether in a box whereas the Singles don't look quite right without a box of its own, but at least they have those booklets which can be hard to acquire (sellers might keep or resell them separately).

Remember how Gainax also announced that the third and fourth films will come out together? In 2008? As 20th anniversary of NGE is happening in 2015 something NGE related must happen! But knowing how reasonable Gainax can be sometimes... Brace yourselves for more Puchi Eva.

I don't think Gainax is in charge of the NMEs anymore; if I'm not mistaken, the movies are handled by Khara.

For people who want to watch Evangelion TV series but can't or don't want to buy the Platinum DVDs because the prices hiked up the Rebuild films are a good alternative.

1.0
2.0
3.0
3.0+1.0

And then it seems like they'll possibly remaster the TV series in HD unless they go out and reveal 4.0+1.0. LOL

I'm pretty happy I picked up the Holiday edition when it was nice and cheap considering we're going to have to wait so long for blu rays.

Just annoyed that I barely missed out on Gundam...picked up 8th ms team right before the prices shot into outer space but that's it unfortunately. Lacked the funds at the time.

Look at the bright side everyone, at least we'll have Eva on blu ray loooong before the older UC gundam series.

And as far as Rebuild being a GOOD alternative to the series....I would say it's an OK alternative to the series.

I think Rebuild is better than the series.

The series is still my favourite anime series of course. I would be first in line for a Blu-ray set.

I'm withholding my judgment regarding Rebuild until I see the final film.

Sometimes it seems that the only thing predictable about Anno is how unpredictable he can be.

You're really underestimating the DVD remastered Platinum/Renewal release.

Check this comparison of the Renewal/Platinum versus Perfect and you'll see how much of a difference it is of night and day.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp...7975/picture:0

This screenshot is from the Platinum R2 PAL (UK) release and looks identical to the Renewal R2J.

By the way, it's Blu-ray not "Blu Ray".

The worst thing about that original Perfect Collection is that the image constantly juddered around like crazy, to the point where it was seriously distracting.

Something that they meticulously fixed for the Renewal/Platinum masters.

"Blu-ray quality" is a too loose term because what do you expect from that? Properly remastered, upscaled or stored SD episodes in a Blu-ray Disc?

As far as things goes now the Renewal/Platinum DVDs are the best way to watch Evangelion and I'm loving it.

The absolute worst disc was the first pressing of Collection 0:1, though. It had overlays over Japanese signs, smeary video, and tried to eliminate the judder caused by scene changes by still-framing those transitions. The CDC should've banned it from retail shelves due to the high probability of it inducing eye cancer...

Are you purposely being obtuse?

Eva was created on film and can be scanned in high definition again, just like any other analogue film. No one here wants SD episodes on Blu-ray Discs. Why would anyone want that?

It was the early days of DVD encoding which meant they'd hardsub over softsub content.

Here no one wants SD episodes on Blu-ray? Possibly true, but elsewhere there's fans who wouldn't mind.

Did you know that for Dragon Ball Z the best release is still the original Dragon Box Z DVD? So in this case fans would rather have Toei/FUNi store the SD episodes in a Blu-ray Disc than getting a crappy remaster (DBZ Season BDs) or upscaled with DNR (Forget Q-TEC they'd use their own team).

Still not high definition. As I said, it was made on film, so that film can be re-scanned in high definition, and that will look much better than the admittedly already very nice looking STANDARD RESOLUTION platinum release.

It definitely can but Gainax is taking ages and I got tired of waiting so I just hunted down all 7 DVDs for extremely cheap prices and now have all seven.

By the way, did you know that a company in Germany is releasing Naruto on Blu-ray, but wait for it... The quality is SD in a Blu-ray Disc? Yep. It's not the first time either.
