If you don't want to call it a flop, fine. But it's a major disappointment either way. It won't even reach 30 mil domestically.

Flop would require it to have no chance of cooping it's money in any way or form due to it's cataclysmic box office. Kick-Ass 2 will break even on home entertainment and licensing rights, but while it is a disappointment, it didn't knock the studio straight on their asses, unlike something like The Lone Ranger which'll likely never hit it's absurd price tag.

I really liked the first Kick-Ass. I thought that it made some good changes to Mark Millar's graphic novel and recreated the really fun tale of regular people turned heroes. When Kick-Ass 2 was announced, I was stoked...until I found out that Matthew Vaughn was no longer going to be involved in the movie (as more than a producer). Jeff Wadlow wrote and directed the sequel, his first rated R adventure. So...did it kick ass?

I'll start off my review by saying that Kick-Ass 2's story is an absolute mess. I'm familiar with the source material, and I know some liberties had to be made with the story for the screen (some of the violence in the book is disgusting), but the characters here seem like that have little to no motivation to do anything. Kick-Ass gets back into the crime fighting game...because he's bored. One of Kick-Ass's friends becomes a super hero because...it seems cool. Hit Girl gets back into the crime fighting game because...she's basically also bored. Certain characters seem completely forgotten about. This script is, simply put, a disaster.

There are several really fun, really well done scenes here. The 'van' scene (hinted at in the trailer) is outstanding. Mother Russia showing the NYPD that she means business is another stand out scene. However, the rest of the movie seems entirely forgettable, with the exception of Jim Carrey's charismatic turn as Captain Stars & Stripes.

The direction is competent. Wadlow lets the action breathe a bit instead of getting up close and personal with the shaky cam that I hate so much, so I did appreciate that. You can actually tell what's going on. The CGI blood is a little distracting (why don't we just use squibs anymore?). The acting is competent, although Mintz-Plasse is even more annoying here than he was in the first one.

Here's my bottom line...going into Kick-Ass 2, expect the following - a terrible story, some cool action scenes, and a ton of dick jokes. Aside from a handful of scenes, this won't be a movie that you remember in a year. Hell, you may not even remember most of it as you exit the theater. It's definitely not as good as the first one.

Final Score: 2/5

Agreed. Plus, you know Blu-ray/DVD/DD/Rental are going to go through the roof on this one. Everyone is patiently waiting for it to come out on home video. That is where any mention of flop status will be turned on its head. Plus at the end of the day it did recoup its budget and then-some.

On the plus side, poor sales at the box office probably means an early Blu-ray release.

I really liked it. It's a good sequel. Everything is just a bit less than the first movie (figths not as good, music also not as good) but a sequel rarely is better than the original. It's more of the same and that's what I wanted.

I'll definitely buy the Blu-ray.

I must say that there were some real standout tracks on the score, not counting the licensed music. Jackman built really successfully on what had been done in the previous one and he has quickly become one of my favourite composers.

Saw it yesterday. It met my expectations .

Too bad for
[Show spoiler] Jim Carrey's short role and Lyndsy Fonseca completely written out because of her commitment to Nikita

Rated slighty below the first one, but still getting the Blu!

I've been listening to the soundtrack pretty much non-stop since I saw it. Both soundtracks are fantastic.

I really hope there is a third one, somehow. I feel like we were lucky to get just the second one.

I doubt there will be a third. This film was a mess.

I hope that if they do a third, they replace Wadlow. They'll need to act fast, as there was no way even in this one that I could actually buy Dave as a high schooler.

First of all, Jeff Wadlow was a mistake. While shots that were copied from the way they were framed in the comic look good. However, most of the other scenes looked less good or just terrible. A lot of memorable parts in the comic were deleted, changed or replaced with ordinary humor. (no-boner, CGI shit, ...) The story drags and somehow isn't able to get you caring about anything that's going on.

Exept for the greatest part : Jim Carrey. The guy was fantastic, I've never seen him like this before and it's a shame Colonel Stars and Stripes didn't get the screentime he deserved. Also not the attention he gets in the comic. Makes me think about the fact I would like to see Carrey in a Tarantino movie, he would be awesome. On the bright side, I did enjoy half of the movie, a lot. The cast had so much fun making this, it realy showed on screen. Too bad, Kick-Ass 2 has no balls.

I gave it a 3 out of 5, benefit of the doubt.

Exactly! He worked out waaaaaayyy too much for the role to be a teenager! Is there actually a time jump between the movie or are we suppose to not mind the foot that Moretz has grown?

How long was Jim carrey in the movie? Still haven't seen it yet. Wanted to see it because of him. I'm a huge fan of Jim carrey.

I think that's kind of my only problem with the movie.. is the product placement.

"Hey, let's pull out my iPad/tablet and watch this music video of a real band for no reason" and "let's walk around the city and wait I'm going to go buy a diet mountain dew for no reason" and then the convenience store has nothing but Pepsi products in the coolers that get shot up.
