I think Amazon UK removing VAT helps the price become a lot more manageable but that assumes it isn't exclusive to their site lol

Actually GBP to USD is now lowest since June 2017, and before the Brexit dip you have to go back to 1985 for it to be lower.

I could see Sentai/Maiden releasing it since ADV did the DVD release, but they'd really have to fix all the translation errors.

One of their translators kept mishearing the Japanese word for beautiful women (美人, bijin) as vision (ビジョン, bijon). It's incredibly dumb.

So 人 (jin), one of the easiest Kanji, was mistaken for ジョン (jiyon)? That's assuming they had transcripts, but still, mistaking Japanese for English via Katakana is pathetic.

This is about spoken language so kanji and katakana don't enter the equation, however "vision" did creep up in one of the episode titles.

Japanese ep.35 title: 突撃美人キャスター獠の(秘)モッコリ取材
ADV translation: "A Vision Newscaster: Ryo's Mokkori Report Scandal"

But in a later episode:

Japanese ep.37 title: 新宿仁義一直線! 着流し美人は弟子志願(前編)
ADV translation: "Shinjuku Honor All The Way: The Kimono Beauty Wants to be my Student: Episode 1"

iirc "Vision" got its own slide in the liner notes too.

Regardless of whether or not it's spoken or written, the two words sound completely different. I guess they hired a third rate guy to finish it up as they rushed it out the door..?

I have almost two 3-foot shelves full of UK releases in my anime collection now, and the majority of those are AL CE or UE sets - and I've ordered most all of them from AOL, Amazon, or Zavvi - I've only ever made three orders directly with AL, because of their costly international shipping fee. Two of those orders included an exclusive title. AOL (MVM) is actually the shipper for most AL website orders anyway.

Yeah totes. I would have ordered from them a few times if it weren't for the outrageous shipping. Love their CEs.

I've mentioned that over on the Anime News UK forums and all the Brits there really don't care. They just said along the lines of, "At least they do ship internationally. Deal with it."

Really? You charge an insane amount of money for shipping me a cartoon in a small box? And how is that okay? Why do you charge $30 (or even more) for me to get an anime?

They just want to give us amurricans some payback because we never have to pay any VAT or import fees.

Rightstuf charge a bomb to ship to the UK.
Sentai don't ship to UK.
Funimation don't ship to UK.

So our only comparable company who distributes anime, and sells it in the US + ships it internationally also charges a bomb. We then also get hit for 20% VAT + Import fee once our rightstuf order arrives.

I think we have it worse.

AOL charges $4 per item to ship to the US, compared to AL's $33 (£25) flat rate for as many titles as you want. So, you would have to buy at least 8 titles at a time from AL to almost break even with AOL shipping. My last order from AL I just received earlier in the week was for 4 titles, so I basically paid over $8 each for shipping. Even Amazon JP's 2-day DHL shipping from Japan is way cheaper than AL - around $12 for the first item and $3 for each additional item, after conversion. Shipping from AL to the US is about 10 days.

So Anime Ltd's website has no mention if the Amanchu OVA is included, even though they're using its art for the second disc. Does anyone know if they've mentioned it? I hope so. It was my favorite episode of the first season. Either way, in for both.

One for classic anime fans:

Quote:
Aniplex announced today that a seven-disc HD-remastered Blu-ray box set of the first season of the City Hunter TV anime based on Tsukasa Hojo's action comedy manga series is set to be released at 50,000 yen (about 452 US dollars) on January 30, 2019. The Sunrise-animated first season was aired for 51 episodes in Japan from April 1987 to March 1988.

The studio produced four TV series with 140 episodes, three TV specials and three films in total from 1987 to 1999, and this is the first time for the anime franchise to get its Blu-ray box release. As a bonus for the box's perfect limited production edition, the manga author Hojo newly draws its jacket illustration.
$450, but......must have.....!
