Haha pretty much. Perhaps I should say...when these college kids are getting their own space, not their own money, they are acquiring somehow big tvs. No judging!

The best method is BOTH physical AND digital. It's a grey area. Young kids now will buy very little physical media, but there will still be physical media for a while, because of all the old people. Fear not!

You're basically John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield Lane

Hold on, there is a girl in a hole that keeps yelling why I'm typing.

Yeah totally John Goodman.

Neither of these is a con of digital movies. In fact, you do need to worry about both of these issues. These are more like pros of Blu-ray discs.

About half the people in that age range still live in a college dorm or with their parents. The jobs for college graduates are pretty scarce right now, sometimes it takes 5 years for them to find good jobs so they can afford their own place. When they buy their own house, or move into an apartment, most likely, they will buy a big screen.

Twitter have just last week agreed a deal to stream NFL games on their site. So they have cable, broadcast and Digital covered. The fact that Twitter represents the digital option says it all to me. Twitter is used mostly on mobile phones. It appears that it ain't just me that sees digital as a purely mobile thing going forward. The very thing that tons of people have argued with me, people will always watch sports on a big screen. Well, in the future it will appear I was right all along. If people will watch NFL on a mobile they will watch ANYTHING on mobile.

Young people definitely use Mobile Devices more, and Twitter is betting on this option. So it would seem the trend would skew in this direction, but Home Theater is also growing and people are not going to Cinema any longer. So these young people as they get older will want their own Home Theater, and they will want their Movies now.....Hence Digital! No more Cinema, First Run Movies straight to your Home Theater....So Steedeel save your pennies you will need Fiber!

I have 500+ blu rays. I've never once redeemed a digital download code from any of them.

So how many times have you watched these Blu-rays, maybe once but probably half of them never. I use to have a Collection like that of DVD's and Blu-rays, and I watched everyone at least once maybe twice or more. Now my UV Collection is 350+, and I've watched everyone at least once, some even more. These Movies I watch are not Downloads, they are Streaming in HDX. My point is that I can watch a Movie much easier, and more often.

I'm trying to make sense of this statement. Why can't you watch Blu-rays often?

Im assuming because its 'easier', you dont have to get up and look at the spine of the physical bluray cases to choose what you want to watch, digital presents you with a nice interface with great cover arts (front) for movies and you can watch them almost instantly without having to get up from your couch

While I do like the benefit, I fit in with that group that is always weary of the "full digital" scheme and don't trust companies to keep my content handy. Something about the way DIVX presented itself years ago, along with what keeps happening to games that are download only really scares me.

I don't want physical to ever go away just because this is the direction the market is headed. Losing that means we're going to learn exactly what will happen when we don't actually own the content we're paying for.

This^^^ It is so much nicer to scroll thru the front covers on a big screen than to struggle (old eyes) looking sideways at little print on the spines.

I tend to know more about movies than my wife. It's very easy within vudu to fire up a trailer for a movie we're thinking about watching. It gives her a better description of what we might watch rather than my incoherent plot descriptions.

It's all around much more convenient...

I browse my collection by looking at covers on Blu-ray.com, but you're probably unfamiliar with that site. Once I choose what I want to watch it takes less than a minute to put the disc I want into my player. If you can't spend 1 minute to set up a 2 hour movie you really are extremely lazy.

This is the issue. The advantages of digital always sound so small, just minor conveniences. But the main disadvantage is huge: you are giving up all control of all content. Anything can be taken away at any time. With physical my entire collection will work fine for the rest of my life (and beyond). If something breaks I can buy another copy from one of the thousands of people who still has a working copy. But with digital if something is delisted then it becomes unavailable for everyone.

Not really. By the time you turn on your tv and start scrolling through all those movie covers I can have stood up and put my blu ray in the player and pressed play.

Seriously though, how lazy have we got as a society when putting a disc in a player is too much work???

That digital collection isn't yours. you are just renting it. If something ever happened to the cloud or the company, if rights are lost you are SOL.

I always snicker a bit when people say they have a large collection of movies and then find out it's just digital.
