That's the big fear.

Ironic that you were responding to a user named filmbuffTX, who canceled Netflix disc service due to all the cable / channel subscriptions they have (including "movie channels").

But those channels just don't have all of the films that a true film buff would want access to. Netflix disc service is the only way I know to find certain films, other than the odd brick-and-mortar store rental-store hold-outs (not many of them left) that have large collections. Or buying the disc for your own collection, if you can find it (netflix has quite a few out of print titles).

Even the Netflix streaming service offering of film titles is píss poor, pales in comparison to dvd.com.

Then there's the crappy quality of streaming, which I guess isn't a deal-breaker for some people.

Give me a Break,

All you guys talking about NetFlix and DVD's.

I have been selling my Codes here, for awhile, and all you want is Codes FROM BluRay.

I could offer My Codes for FREE from DVD's, and they would get NO Takers.

To get the Quality from BluRay--4K---8K----You NEED a BIG Screen TV.

To get HDR Sound, you need a Good Speaker system.

You Spend your Money for VCR-DVD-BluRay-4K-8K---What's NEXT ???

Do we Really NEED 10K--12K.

The United States Economy is Based on People Buying things.

Millions of People are still going to the Theatres, and buying overpriced Popcorn.

I could go ON and ON, but I won't.

Too late for that, but if you do comment some more, please be a little more cohesive — your point was as clear as mud.

Well let me clean off some of that Mud.

We Don't need all of that CRAP.

BluRay is good enough.

A BluRay Player is Good enough.

We dont need a NEW Cellphone every year.

I am NOT going to Buy a 4K Player or Movie's

I am NOT going to Buy 8K Player or Movie's

I am NOT going to Buy 10K or 12K Player or Movies

The NEW Joker Movie has made over a BILLION dollars in the Movie Theatre.

But the Problem is are Economy is Based on People buying things.

People have alot of Clothes, but they still go out and buy more.

I have an MP3 Player which I have had for around 20 Years.

For Example Music,

There is alot of different types of Music,

But if the Majority don't buy a certain artist or Band, they are gone.

You get SHIT Music(my Opinion) and they make alot of Money, they stay.

The NEW Celephone has 3 Lenses.

Things are Nice to have, BUT you don't need to BUY every NEW Version of Something.

My 1st Computer had Windows XP, later Windows 7.

I had Windows 7 for several years, because it worked for me.

A few months ago I went to Windows 10, it looks different, but it's still basically the same computer system.

I had a VCR Player and spent money on VCR Tapes, dont have them anymore.

Had a 8Track player and 8 Track tapes, dont have them anymore.

Had a Cassette Player, and a bunch of Cassette tapes, have only a few cassette tapes left, and never play my cassette player anymore.

I got a Portable CD Player, and bought several CD's, and Don't use my CD Player anymore or my CD's.

I am sticking with my MP3 Player and Bluray--DVD Player.

I am tired of Spending my Money on some NEW Something.

Always forget disc rental is still an option with them. Have they shared any kind of info on what % of folks are utilizing it? I'd imagine it's <1%.

Tell it like it is Rocky Road, I feel some of your pain. I go all the way back to DOS for my Computers, then through early Windows, 95, 97, XP, Win7, and now Windows 10 on a SSD. VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray never got a 4K Player but I do have a 4K UHD TV. I'm Digital Streaming now watching HD and 4K, no more Discs for me and I haven't looked back!

It is certainly your prerogative to not buy new things, but as long as someone is buying the latest shiny thing in a fiscally responsible manner, where is the harm? Last time I checked, it actually helps the economy when money changes hands for goods and services.

As far as your comment on music, you couldn’t be further from the truth. There are an abundance of bands out there today who are not mainstream, but yet are able to make a living. Granted, the money is not the same as it was 20-30 yrs ago since the industry is very different now with there being no money in having their music streamed, but they are still able to make money by hitting the road to play live and sell their merchandise. I go see at least a show a month, and even pass on good shows coming through town due to scheduling. The shows I go see are very rarely mainstream acts in 15,000 seat arenas, as we have a handful of good venues in town with 2000 seats and under with something to choose from almost every night, with bands who have been around for at least 10 years or more.

No, my phone doesn’t have 3 lenses, but I do buy things I want and not necessarily need because I work hard for my money, and want to enjoy my life. Even with such wanton spending, my credit card is paid off every month and retirement is right around the corner for me and my wife.

Is that your way of saying "I hope there is a Netflix Disc Rental Future"?

Me too.

Cheers, Chris

PS: Brevity is he soul of wit.

PSST: I love it when someone produces something that's much better than we had before. As a film buff (and I think most of us on this web site are), I cherish the ability to get that much closer to theater experience (at least in respect to audio / video fidelity). So I have some of my favorite cinema experiences in glorious 4K / UHD (yes, it is better--lots). But that's just me.

If it was that low they wouldn't be offering it still.
Here's an article from August that says they just shipped their 5 billionth disc./ And that they ship a million a week, not too shabby.

The discs deffo aren't being refreshed like they used to be, but for me it still beats chasing which streaming service has which movie... 75-90% have discs available from Netflix and as a movie connoisseur it has been wonderful to pick and choose my tastes instead of being stuck with whatever comes out month after month with Netflix (not that there aren't humongous gems on that service). But not having to worry about what kids movies come out on D+ or NF or whatever, and just getting the disc is great.

The only alternative that doesn't break the bank is piracy, which has been on a downward trend it seemed

It depends on what you call 'Piracy' ?

I believe I can 'Copy' or 'RIP' something for my Personal use.

Piracy is getting up on a web site to download a copy of a film that you do not own on physical media, or a format of the film you don't have (you have DVD, but you downloaded the BD so that you didn't have to pay for an upgrade).

It is someone ripping the physical media disc, then placing that digital copy on a sharing site for the entire world to copy for free.

I find it hard to believe that a user of this site needs that explained to them.

Maybe something needs to be explained to YOU.

Did I say that 'I' did Not understand what Piracy Is ???

I asked the Question---- It depends on what you call 'Piracy' ?

And YES, some People consider RIPPING Wrong and/or Illegal.

And YES, some People might even consider it 'Piracy'.

Here are some Definitions for YOU

Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence by ship or boat-borne attackers upon another ship or a coastal area, typically with the goal of stealing cargo and other valuable items or properties.

Piracy refers to the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted content that is then sold at substantially lower prices in the 'grey' market.

Software piracy. A term used to describe the act of illegally using, copying or distributing software without ownership or legal rights.

Software piracy is the stealing of legally protected software. Under copyright law, software piracy occurs when copyright protected software is copied, distributed, modified or sold.

Here is a Part that Might interest YOU,

Piracy traditionally refers to acts of copyright infringement intentionally committed for financial gain.

So If somebody Posts a Movie, for FREE---is That Piracy ???

If Somebody Downloads a Movie for FREE---is that Piracy ???

Asking those questions, it's clear that you don't understand the legal ramifications of piracy (either of uploading or downloading). I'm not a lawyer. I suggest you look elsewhere for legal advice.

But yes, experience tells me that downloading a single pirated film (for free) can get you a nasty message from your ISP, if they are contacted by the copyright owner. If you are unlucky, that could be more than just a message telling you to stop doing it.

And with that, I'm done with piracy conversations on this subthread. I'm here to discuss Netflix Disc Rental Futures, and the hopes that they continue for a long time.

@Streetlight:

Welcome to the site.

Generally speaking, Netflix DVD stopped "aggressively" getting reissues/remasters years ago. This is not a growth biz for them any more. And my understanding after many calls is that reps you speak to on the phone are looking at the same open Website we all are when you're seeking answers to disc version questions. Also, I've personally experienced situations in which a title I've received for which there are a couple of different versions does not correspond to the artwork on the site. Finally, it's very possible that they have various versions of a title so what one member's experience is in terms of which version they've received may or very well may not be dispositive as to what might show up in your mailbox.

So it seems to me the only way to get answers to the (enthusiast) questions you're asking about which version Nf has is to rent the discs yourself. I'm in a one-day turnaround market so it's not a huge deal for me: I literally put something back in the mail the same day I receive it if it's not what I wanted and move on to the next disc.

Yup. It's what we got.

And I think it's the best we have, unless someone can mention a better service (your local enthusiast store with the huge catalog, if your city still has one, doesn't really count for this worldwide forum).
