Kam & Ronson: Bad Blood (Master Code: LP01, Mould Code: 7T33) Womb Ghosts (Master Code: LP01, Mould Code: 7T33) Both discs doesn't play in my Blu-ray drive and the bronzing is around the centre of the disc. Panorama: Election 1 and 2 (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FD88) A1 (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FD88) Overheard (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FD88) Everlasting Regret (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FZ88) Butterfly (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FZ88) All's Well End's Well 2009 (Master Code: LP01, Mould Code: FD88) All discs are bronzed. Election 1+2 and A1 are playing fine on my Blu-ray drive. All's Well..... does not play. I will check the other movies tomorrow. |

So far for me, I have Look for a Star and Breaking News dead.
Accident, Exiled and Fire of Conscience (yay!) were fine and are now backed up. |

Out of all my Asia titles, the only one that point blank refuses to play, is Vicol's release of Black Ransom (2010).
That was the first Region A disc I ever bought. |

![]() I'm currently looking into a better backup solution for my discs, instead of using four different external harddrives. I keep all the movies and series I've ripped to sub (anime series and Korean movies, mostly) in MKV form so I don't have to rip every time I want to watch them. |

Yes, it seems that once the bronzing begins it will eventually get worse and render the disc unplayable. I will never forget the day I realized that most of my Well Go USA blu-rays had bronzed and no longer played. Luckily, they replaced them all. Not going to happen for these Hong Kong/Taiwanese discs.

So does anyone know what causes this bronzing defect? Is it because of storage, humidity, etc?

All of mine still seem to be fine (again knocking all the wood). But I'm not gonna take any chances. I'll go and grab a new HDD today and start making backups of all these early discs.
I notice most of you seem to be in Europe and the Northern Hemisphere. I'm down in Australia. I wonder if the climate has any effect on the speed of this happening. I would've thought that the Australian climate would be worse for physical media. |

I think it's simply down to a chemical process that happens regardless of temperature. But I'm definitely near clueless about chemistry, so...
I'm sure I have more rotten discs than my Well Go The Man from Nowhere, Breaking News and Look for a Star, but I'm scared to find out ![]() |

Just checked my copy of Turning Point (CN Entertainment) and is bronzed and gone.
Master Code: LP01 Mould Code: ML06 Also some releases from Taiwan (Pony): Mercury Man A Tale of Legendary Libido "P" from Thailand is gone too. For the three movies the Master Code is LW84 and the Mould Code is IC0Z. |

Do more recent Hong Kong/Taiwan discs have different mould SID/IFPI codes? We're already up to 5 different "bad" ones from 2009ish (4 where the first two digits are unique, implying 4 different pressers?), so it's hard to believe that an entirely new set of pressers has been used since then.
I wonder if there was an issue with some material used in 2009-2010 that was sold by one company to many different pressers. The USA bronzing problem discs were mostly in that same time frame as well (Criterion, Well Go USA, Lionsgate, a few random Paramount and Universal releases pressed at the same plant, etc.). I haven't checked exhaustively, but every Hong Kong release mentioned here that I've looked up now seems to be OOP (not available on YesAsia at least). Does that mean that were was only the one (presumably "bad") pressing in 2009? At least for most of the US discs, they've remained in print, meaning there are more recent "good" pressings that can be purchased. I have no naive hope that these Hong Kong companies will replace the discs for free and ship internationally and all that, but it'd at least be nice to be able to purchase a new pressing. |
