You'd think nothing would surprise me with music in HK movies...but I wasn't expecting music from Tim Burton's BATMAN in this!

I noticed ripped off scores/music/effects in tons of old Hong Kong/Japanese movies, games, TV. I always figure maybe they just licensed it, but part of me thinks no one ever did and back then no one really cared or noticed since it was in Asia, but these days if someone did that it would be all over something like Youtube/social media as plagerism. Aliens is one film I can always spot audio from in something else. Have also heard Faltermeyer type rip-offs in other '80s films even from the USA.

BTW the US version finally comes out in a couple weeks, feel like I've had it pre-ordered forever, can't wait to see this disc.

Japanese movies generally had their own specially composed music.

HK movies...I used to assume the music was nicked, but Shaws were definetly paying for the De Wolfe music so I guess they and Golden Harvest payed for the Barry/Morricone et al music. Golden Harvest often had original music mixed in with the existing cues - see WAY OF THE DRAGON, for instance, where Joseph Koo wrote a lot of new music, but it's mixed in with cues from titles like ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.

I was wondering too, no one knows yet, I'm sure one will be better than the other

The difference is:

Eureka's Release - Available Now

88Film's Release - Available in January (Probably)

All jokes aside, I believe the transfers themselves are sourced from the same master. The extras are different though. Obviously, the packaging is also different. It's a little difficult to say much about 88film's release since we didn't get much outside of the trailer. But if you compare the trailer to eureka's footage, there's a difference in the framing as well. Someone pointed this out earlier in this thread, I think.

Both labels are independently restoring the film from the same raw 4K scan. We won't know for sure how they differ until actual screencaps from 88's version turn up. 88's trailer doesn't feature their remaster; I believe the footage there is regraded from the existing Fortune Star 4K master.

I still haven't picked up this release, don't really like the slipcover and was waiting for it to get a bit cheaper. I presume 88 will do their usual thicker case with increased pricetag though so it may not make much sense to wait for that release

I’d be surprised if that wasn’t an error. Everywhere else says March and we still don’t know what the bonus features are.

Could be, diabolikdvd still says March, guess I'll find out tomorrow if this is marked in stock. My arrival estimate is later this month so I'm hoping they do have stock on hand. Amazon did have this listed as March but changed it back about a week ago, their other 88 titles are also listed for Jan 10th.

My order history on Amazon says arriving Feb 16th previously expected March 16th.
