This is just plain dumb! I'm surprised that studios and, where they are involved, directors/DPs don't reject the work.

'Colour branding' a restoration would surely be the quickest way to alienating your clients.

I noticed after getting my tv ISF calibrated, the Ritrovata yellow tint didn't look quite as bad (still not accurate). Another "fix" is changing the settings to cool, though no one should have to do this and most likely still wouldn't look accurate.

Either way, as frustrating as it is I'm continuing to support the HK releases as who could've imagined 5 years ago getting the Police Story trilogy in 4K UHD?!

Hoping for a Bruce Lee 50th anniversary UHD set next year, with the great people of this forum helping to make them definitive releases (better audio at least)

Le Cercle Rouge was done by Hiventy, not Ritrovata. I think both companies have the same philosophy though.

That was certainly a frustrating read that explains a lot about problematic 4K remasters. It's sad, these remasters could be definitive with films potentially never needing another, and yet now there will be far too many that have fans begging for someone else to spend the money to remaster them correctly.

The sad thing too is that article mentioning how all these indie labels are attempting to fix the color grading. Many of these films are irreparably damaged from the extreme color pushes and trying to "fix" them can't remove other problems that come with the work that was done.
