I hate to do this to you, but here it goes!
I had/have a issue with my Sub-12's, if you want to read about it Here is the link. Inside that thread is a link to another thread that was hi-jacked.

BUT TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT:

You should have your receiver sub set to 80Hz and have the sub set to 120Hz..

I first had both set to 80Hz receiver and subs.

If you read those thread the final outcome hasn't happened yet, but I will tell you that Klipsch is sending me two amps to replace inside of my subs.

bottom line, nothing wrong with my subs it was just the numbers were reversed.

Also I added a small carpet under each of the subs and they are hitting a little harder, not boomy as some say..
in the reciever I have the gain for the subs @ -8db and on the subs less then half way.

@ rdemystang

Wanted to add, I bought my sub-12's last feb '08. Klipsch feel my problem was limited to that batch I had gotten.

HAMP,

Thanks for the info, I got my sub in Nov. 08 so I hope I will not have the same issue. I love it but am having a hard time getting it to blind with the F-2 right. I will make the suggested adjustments and let you know.

Tell me more of what you mean by getting it to blend right?
Too boomy?
Too much power?
What settings do you have for your speakers?
The db for your subs inside the receiver?
Also there is a bass level besides the db and Hz inside the receiver.

The sub would be fine on some movies like ones with a lot of dialogue, but not enough on action scenes. I have found how to adjust the sub on my Onkyo 806 and now it sounds a lot better but my receiver is not saving the setting. when I turn it off it will set back to the calibrated level. Also I did have the sub set to 80 and 80 on my receiver as well, changed it to 120 on the sub and left the receiver at 80 and now getting a larger range of bass.

I don't trust the setting on the sub, so I leave it wide open and let the receiver do that task. We had a discussion about this a while back, and the general concensus is, you're doing it the right way.

Your receiver will not save the settings unless you are in the settings menu and go to the speaker settings and level calibration. Pressing channel adjust on your remote will only temporarily make a change.

I have it, it's pretty nice, and I paid the same price for it a year ago, when they had a similar deal. It's worth it if you don't have a huge space to fill.

+1
I also have this sub and paid a price very similar to that one back in March of 08. I live in an apartment and this thing keeps my neighbors hating me. It's a great sub. Very clean bass. Highly recommended.

Default Noob question

Hey guys i'm new here. I have a Klipsch powered sub and I think the amp is cutting out or turning off at higher volumes. Any ideas what is going on here? Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Does it work properly when the volume is low? Is the knob faulty?

Unplug the sub and trun the volume up and down several times and turn it back on and see if it got better. Several months ago, I had a problem with the knobs on my regular amplifier (not the sub amp).

It is possible that you may have the same problem as Hamp. See Post #21 and also check the link in that post.

I don't think it's the knobs. When it works, it rocks. Also it only seems to do it when driven hard, at lower levels it never does it. Its as if the amp is temporarily shutting off to avoid damage. I keep the subs volume level set at about 50% and use the receiver to adjust the volume. It only does it during huge explosions or other Low freq. scenes and then, only when at higher volume settings. btw Thanks for the quick reply.

Does it shut down completely? If so, that's the protection circuitry cutting in. Is there any kind of burning odor with the sub at all?
