Wow! You guys are fast with the replies! I like it here already. I does seem to shut off completely but VERY briefly, like one second. No burning odor. The more questions I answer, the more i'm starting to feel, "maybe i'm just driving it too hard" ?

If the subwoofer level is at 50% and your receiver's volume is at a reasonable level and you experience no problems, then it must some sort of protection circuitry on the sub amp that is the culprit.

Make sure you calibrate your speakers properly. If the sub level is too high in the receiver's menu, turn it down. Also decrease the sub's crossover frequency in the receiver' menu and see if there is any improvement. The crossover frequency on the back of the subwoofer should be at its maximum point.

What kind of volume are you pushing to it? In the crossover/speaker settings menu, is there any kind of db boost you're giving it? If so, how much?

My guess is that you're either cranking the volume/giving it way too much juice or there's something wrong with the sub. Do you ever hear it clipping/distorting/sounding "bad" before it cuts out?

*edit* Heh, BD said the same thing as I was typing this.

Guys thanks for all the replies/help. I figured I owe it to you to get out there and write down the settings so we all know where i'm at. It's a Klipsch ksw15 The volume goes from one to 11, I have it set a 6. The variable low pass goes from 40Hz (which is about at the 8 o'clock position to 120 at about 4 o'clock) to 120Hz. I have that set straight up at 12, which splits the difference between 70 and 100Hz, so, 85Hz ? It has a phase toggle switch 0 or 180, I have that set to 0. It has a hi pass toggle switch 50Hz or 100Hz, I HAD that set to 50Hz. I NOW have it set to 100Hz. I have the receiver set flat or no boost.

Default Klipsch ksw 10

I bought this sub to replace a noisy junk sub I had. I like this sub warm and fills the room nice (for what it is I will add a second soon) but watching some of the latest bd's like, transformers, king kong, ironman, etc. I get a distortion of sorts. A real big flappie boom that will trail off.

I have the levels set with a spl and the crossover is set correctly, but I am not sure what else to do.

Any thoughts from anyone?

I would say that your sub simply cannot handle the lowest of frequencies well and is bottoming-out. You will most likely need to upgrade.

Turn the volume down slightly and see if you notice any improvement.

Man the sub 12s are nice and two would be cool. I am looking at getting a 2nd rw 12 d if I can find a good deal on one. But two sub 12s would be great.

What price are you looking to get below? That is a sealed sub and I wanted to try and put two ported sub with one or maybe two sealed subs to see how it sounds.

I havn't gotten around to doing it yet, been really busy lately.

I do have two ported Sub-12's and it does have a very nice smoothness about them.

******EDIT ****
Silly me, i just read that it has a port... "Corner Port".
I couldn't see that from the pic

Default two subs

i already have a klipsch 12" sub connected to my yammy 663.i also want to a connect my 10" klipsch.when you go to the menu settings does each sub have there own settings or do they share the same settings?in the menus does it suppose to show two subs or just the one.one more thing, for my main sub i use a monster sub cable that was too expensive.can i use the red, white and yellow cables for my 10"sub or do you have to use a "SUBWOOFER CABLE".if i do im not paying as much as i did for the monster cable.
