For one thing, Epik subs just feel extremely solid, with great build quality. I don't think I can ever bottom my Sentinel. Not quite so with the other sub I own. Both brands sound great (although in different ways). The Epik stands out as a tank.
I just recently received my 2nd (and discontinued) Epik Conquest (18" drivers) subwoofer. I have yet to get both of these up and running in the new Listening Room/Home Theater. I expect that that will change shortly.

Default Epik Valor

Just to add to the Epik love around here I have previously owned the following:

M&K VX-760
Earthquake MKIV-12
Definitive Supercube 1
2 - M&K VX-1250's

One 15" Epik Valor absolutely is a better sub than all of these units. Tighter response for music and plenty of low end for movies. If you need a sub I believe Epik should be on your short list

Wow, two Conquests!

ceiph, tysonmax, naturephoto1, cblaz: Just edited my post to say "I don't think I've seen many setups with Epik subwoofers." Hopefully more will post here.

I was just looking at Epik's subs again and what they do have available is the Empire. It has dual 15" drivers, one on each side. It appears that neither is a passive radiator. They are both powered drivers if I understand correctly. I'm guessing corner placement (like in my setup) would be an absolute no-no since one driver would be aimed directly at a wall? Am I correct, and are there any other factors that would come into play with this type of sub?

Big Daddy I'm hoping to hear your thoughts here.

I am not a big fan of a subwoofer with two active drivers. I prefer two separate subwoofers with separate ports or passive radiators, and separate amplifiers. The whole point of two subwoofers is placement and not higher SPL. There are advantages of having the bass sound coming out of two separate locations in the room. You will get a smoother and more even output across the room for most positions.

In car applications, you see many subwoofers with multiple drivers. Car audio enthusiasts are bass junkies and like the additional SPL. Furthermore, you don't have that much flexibility for placement in a small car.

If you decide to buy me a JL Audio subwoofer, please remember that I prefer two Fathon f112 or two Fathom f113 to one Fathom 212 or one Gotham g213.

Thanks for the response BD. I'm not in the market for a new subwoofer, but when I saw the Empire had dual drivers I wasn't sure what to think of it.

And I'll keep your preferences in mind when I start giving out JL Audio subs.

The main reason there are so few Epik posters on this board, is that Big Daddy just isn't much of a fan of Epik's products (18" drivers or dual drivers). Vist here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=885079

You will find out about EVERYTHING Epik has previously and does currently produce.

I'm familiar with that thread. I used to post on that site quite frequently, but not so much lately. Epik has a much more substantial fan base there than they do here though.

Well add me to the list in a few more weeks. I plan to buy two empire subs. Everything I read about Epik continues to impress.

I remember back when I was younger I used to be heavy into overclocking pc's. And depending on what site you were reading. Each one perferred different products. Cooling sytems, fans, power supplies, cpu's, memory, and etc. Each would swear that one was greater then the other. Once the hype starts on one site, members take note and jump aboard.

If you had two Empires in two diferrent locations, regarless of SPL you should have great bass repoduction correct? If I had them properly eqed and spl leveled having two woofers in one box should be ok?

Just for the heck of it I sent another e-mail to Epik to ask about all the other models listed on their site. Here is their response:

Quote:
Thanks again for your email. Our Conquest is discontinued. Our other offerings are out of stock and will not be available again for quite some time. We are working to replace/redesign our other products.

The Empire offers such great performance for the price, that it doesn't make sense to offer some of our other models who's performance/price can't match that of the Empire.

We are always working on designing new products and hope to have a 12" and a larger sub available again in coming months, however it will still be quite some time before we have any other information to release regarding these new products. They are still being developed.

We apologize there is not more available at this time. Again, just let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks again for your email and your continued interest in Epik Subwoofers.

All the best,
I intentionally chopped off the parts with names. It kind of surprises me that they're already looking to revamp their entire line. Didn't they just redo their whole lineup about a year ago?

In general, two subs will be better than one, but getting two dialed in has its own challenges as well, but in general yes. There is nothing wrong with two woofers in one box. I think Big Daddy was saying if you are going to have two drivers, he would prefer them in two different room locations, not that he thought having two in one box was bad.

My call went great, I talked to Chad. He was telling how he has two empires in his HT that he replace the conquest with. I was impressed with that statement. He also said you only need about two inches away from the wall for placement. Made a good point how down facing subs are only a inch or two drom the ground. Said it's a sealed sub that doesn't vibrate at all. He also said bass waves are like dipping your finger in a calm swimming pool and how the waves will travel in all directions. Really nice guy, that fact that he replaced the conquest with the empires really impressed me.

Anyone can place an order online to pre order them and won't be charged till ready to ship. Hope they are ready early May. He said so far seems to be right on schedule.
