Default Write the studios directly if you can

I went looking at Disney's home site for their home entertainment division (http://disneyvideos.disney.go.com/, found via Google), to see what release plans they had, as I was specifically looking for "Mary Poppins". I believe that film would look and sound absolutely awesome on Blu-Ray, and it is a great movie for its genre.

When I didn't see it listed, I found a "contact us" link on the site, and wrote them, asking to consider releasing it on BR.

I actually got a letter back from them saying they would forward my suggestion to the appropriate folks at Disney.

So, all I can say is WRITE. It not only might get us some content we want from the catalogs out there, but it also reinforces the audience for BR material.

Thanks.

Disney are super pro-BD. So this type of response to the consumer (rather than nothing at all) doesn't surprise me.

I believe Disney had a meeting last week, where they presented a lot of BD stuff to the employees, and revealed such things that they are one of the studios who has a stake in sending people out for "employee education" on all things blu-ray at places like Wal-Mart.

That's why I don't read much into this recent news of delayed titles - and believe it is actually only a good thing (probably for strategic puproses which will only benefit the format in the long run).

So, I agree with the original poster... it doesn't hurt to email the studio with your suggestions, and by doing so, you're showing your support!

I like this idea...

but if everyone keeps sending letters of which movie they'd like to see, I think they'd become numb to it...

I want Pulp Fiction on BD

I want The Insider!

And A Spaceman in King Arthur's Court (or would that look worse in Blu-ray?)

I would LOVE to see Tron on Blu-Ray. The computer animation in the movie helped to set the standard for today. Even the staff at Pixar acknowleged this as an inspiration. I'd also love to see Close Encounters Of The Third Kind as well.

all these studios need to do is to release a major franchise to one format only and release it. It should end the format war. I would pressure 20th Century Fox since they side with Blu-ray only to pressure George Lucas into releasing the entire Star Wars saga on Blu-ray. That will put HD-DVD out of business and ending this god forsaken format war.
