![]() I reckon ISPs have a harder time upgrading their lines and infrastructure here due to population density (need to get permits to do all that construction). I'm guessing areas in LA that have gigabit are bound to be just too expensive (like $$ millions expensive). I do get 100Mbps so it's not so bad although I do sometimes envy folks who live 40+ miles away getting 300-500Mbps FiOS paying the same or less than what I'm paying for my internet. ![]() |

At least I can hang on to my projector and buy a new tv in a couple of years and I can still enjoy my collection for a decade or so. After that, I fear films, big screen tv and tv shows will be gone, replaced by short form, social tv sites with 5 minute (if that) videos. I think AT&T top wigs said something like 'we skate to where the puck is, and that's mobile' Never been more depressed about the future for home cinema. |

Oh, by the way, did you know fibre is no longer the future? Apparently, (afaik) the likes of Verizon, Google etc.. Have scrapped further plans and instead are investing in 5g. There you have it. Along with AT&T see a wireless network as the future. Like I said, mobile is the focus now. Everyone who has jumped aboard the digital (streaming) train is contributing to the future demise of the home cinema. Well done guys.

So why cant 5G still be used for home use? For Set-top boxes, Apple TVs, Chromecasts, Rokus? I know it is still represents digital but it can still be watched on the larger TVs. There may be a shift to focus on mobile but IMO I highly doubt that is the only focus of these corporations |

There are some interesting figures published from Ofcom in the UK, which were highlighted in a report from tonight's ITV News at Ten, that looked at viewing habits of people who had watched traditional TV over services like Netflix & Amazon Prime.
http://www.itv.com/news/2016-11-01/n...80th-birthday/ The findings were contained in a report reporting on the latest TV series from Netflix called The Crown. It is regarded as one of Netflix's current big budget shows with each episode being made at a cost of £5 million each. The report said, in terms of most homes being connected to broadband in the UK, that 80% of Adults aged 16+ watched TV shows either via Live or Recorded TV on traditional TV sets compared to On Demand/Streaming which accounted for only 15%. These figures suggest that Netflix & Amazon have not hurt the rate of TV consumption of people living in the UK to other broadcasters like the BBC, ITV or Sky. There are instances that many people who watch live there record their own programmes on a PVR setup or watch it live at that moment it's scheduled. People who use PVR's would make their recordings or watch it live through various platforms like Freeview, Freesat, Youview, BT TV, Virgin Media (Pay TV Cable) & Sky (Pay TV Satellite). The main reason as to why people living in the UK do this regularly is that broadband infrastructure is good for what it provides already but it is nowhere near fast enough in a lot of areas to provide seamless reception of Netflix or Amazon Prime to potential customers. Other than that OFCOM/BARB Figures suggest that 5 million people with a broadband connection in the UK are customers with Netflix. |

I support both physical and digital, but right now, 2nd and 3rd generation AppleTV's are experiencing some kind of glitch where the apps have completely disappeared from the home menu. I thought it was just mine, but it seems to be a widespread problem.
It's been going on for roughly 24 hours. Yes, first world problems and if not for my iPad as another way to watch, I'd be SOL right now. |

Big Apple fan here. Yes, there's occasional glitches with the servers, but the products are reliable in my experience and they handle much of their business with an attention to quality IMO. Way more than most companies. |

Yes with iTunes your Streaming Quality is not that good, if you had Vudu HDX then watching Civil War in all it's glory could be accomplished with a good set up and enough Bandwidth.
