He went on to say that his favorite musicals are Cabaret and All That Jazz. Maybe he'd do something in that vein?

I know this is sacrilegious to some. But I would be up for a new Cabaret if he took influence from the 90's revival.

I also, being a Sondheim fan would be happy for a version of Assassins.

Those would both have the darker aspects it seems he would be interested in.

the other day I was debating with a few friends about best director runs in film history. although coppola's the godfather-the conversation-the godfather II-apocalypse now its hard to top, ridley made the duellists-alien and blade runner, that runs coppola pretty close.

The duellists is definitely a film that deserves some kind of reassessment, because in my opinion is his best yet, but thats a very personal opinion because the film speaks to me so much. I'll admit that blade runner is possibly his peak, and I think it goes in the conversation for the best top 3 scifi of all time, but the duellists has such charm, and that ending is magical and unforgettable. I actually made a trip to france just
[Show spoiler]to stand where harvey keitel stands in the final frames

Sometimes people have accused ridley of being cold, and thats a fair criticism IMO, but the duellists is an incredibly romantic and warm movie

I very much respect Ridley and his body of work. He definitely has more hits than misses.

if I don't like Denzel Washington, can I make it through 'American Gangster' ?? a movie I've been purposefully putting off seeing.

I was watching the doc on him on the new release of 'Legend' and he stated he really liked the making and the results of 1492, has there been any new news if he will ever go back and do a proper longer cut of the movie?

the one bucket list movie I hope he can rescue like he did with 'KoH' is 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' - that theatrical cut and with some truly glaring edits here, there and everywhere, looks like editor Billy Editor cut it with a bushwhacker.

Russell Crowe is a definite co-lead in that movie. It's not just the Denzel show. I say go for it.

duly noted

now to also watch 'The Counselor' a movie which has been in my 'to watch' pile for far too long ... and 'The Duelist' for that matter as well.

Ridley Scott at 83 and still directing. That is pretty awesome when most would be retired. Directing is a very time consuming profession.

My favorite Ridley Scott films that he's made:

Alien
Prometheus
Legend
Gladiator
The Martian

And then I thought the following were interesting:
Blade Runner
Black Rain
Hannibal
Black Hawk Down
American Gangster
Exodus
Alien Covenant

I wasn't a big fan of:
Kingdom of Heaven
Robin Hood
Body of Lies

GI Jane was okay. Thelma & Louise.

I'd like to see Matchstick Men 2003.

I'll probably never see House of Gucci.

I'd watch Last Duel on TV. The others I haven't seen yet.

He's got a wide range of film genres that he covers. Talented guy.

Watch the director's cut/extended edition. It's a better version of the movie and there is way more Russell Crowe in it than the theatrical cut.

I like Ridley Scott and I love that he is one of the more active filmmakers. He puts out a film every year or two. He's got two movies coming out this year. I think Clint Eastwood is the only person other person who hasn't slowed down as he has gotten older.

Every Ridley project isn't always for for me but he always still manages to get A list casts. He pulled off a really great movie in The Martian that showed he can still direct a $100 million movie and pull off greatness.

I mostly agree but the hits tend to be his older films but lately there have been a lot of misses.
