Angry Amazon opts for HD DVD in selling indie films

Amazon opts for HD DVD in selling indie films

I was wondering that nobody posted this yet. If I am wrong, and the wrong forum, please move or merge.
Quote:
Amazon.com will begin selling high-definition independent films in the HD DVD format through its on-demand DVD printing service, the company said late Sunday.

The Seattle online retailer said it will waive processing fees for the first 1,000 films it accepts for production by its CustomFlix Labs subsidiary.

Microsoft will supply the VC1 high-def video-encoding software and the HDi program used to package the film and extra features on the disk.

Hmmm...I almost wonder if I should stop doing business with them because of something like this. Of course, if I do that, then that's a rather decent "Blu-Ray influence" that I'd take out of there.

The hardware must've cost a fortune since there's not a lot of HD-DVD burners out there.

Insignificant until Hollywood films are done the same way.

Yikes, Amir deigned to post in the AVMS thread on this topic, outside the safety of his insiders hidey-hole.

Amirm posted on this subject on AVM$, and it is outside Insider thread:

So an indpendent film maker could send over the movie by itself. And then a few months later, Amazon could add an HDi template that would have network features for that title without touching the original asset. And all indie producers would benefit in this way, giving incredible scale. Think what Bood Diamond interactivity features today, being available on all Warner discs released since inception!

As one thinks about the power of MOD system, there are a lot of places the brain can go .

And what the hell is MOD?

The the 15 GB discs burning at 1x, doing real HD DVD discs would be a slow task.

Since it says 'DVD replicating' I bet they aren't even doing HD15.

Ben W has been going on and on about this in the Adobe thread on AVS. He didn't indicate any HD15 capability at this stage.

However we do see the HDNet Blu-ray BDR discs at Amazon, do don't feel too left out

BD will have a place even if MOD becomes accepted...

when you run out of HD space, where are you going to save the content knowing you will need alot of space on the disc?...

BD will come into play here for people who like to keep physical copies movies incase they have to reformat or if they just want to save it...

so even in a worst case scenario....BD will be the format for awhile...
