Default The Ultimate 007 James Bond Thread

I've done a search but I can't find an ultimate James Bond thread. They all seem to be focus on either the Blu-rays or some aspects of the mythos but not an all-encompassing thread that covers it all... so I started this one!

I thought this would be a decent place to discuss all things Bond, without having to worry about spoilers in the thread of whichever latest Bond film is currently in cinemas. I think it's a tad unfair to ask people to post their opinions in spoiler tags for a film that's been released cinematically.

***

Anyway, I've got to say I was quite hesitant about the selection of Daniel Craig as Bond when it was first announced nearly 10 years ago. I wasn't part of the mob that wanted him lynched for being blonde, but I didn't think he had "it". A part of me still thinks there's something quite un-Bond-like about him, but performance-wise (taking into account the obvious creative direction of Craig's era of Bond) I think, from what I've seen in CR, QoS, and Skyfall, he's rather good.

He won me over quite quickly when I saw CR for the first time. His callous interruption of Dryden's patronising attempts at worming out of a dicey situation with the excellent line, "Considerably" was perfect. The dull thud of a silenced gunshot which sends the old man sprawling was sheer class. The theme song kicks in and I'm thinking, "Yep, this is awesome."

He seemed to be having a lot of fun in Spectre. Craig has the comfortable rigidity nailed down four movies in. Great pic of all the Bonds.

[edit] Undecided about the last two though. I think GoldenEye's one of the best Bond films EVER and TND is pretty good, but TWINE and DAD veer into Moore levels of camp. Craig also got off to a great start with Casino Royale and I'm one of those weirdos who likes Quantum, it's Skyfall that lets him down so I guess I've gotta see how Spectre fares before changing anything around. If it blows then Craig will go to the bottom.

That's a strange one if you don't mind me saying.

Brosnan is your favourite and yet he's not even in your top 10 Bond movies.

You've got Craig pretty much at the bottom and 3 of his films are in your top 10.

Why is there not a poll for fans to vote on their favorite James Bond movie?

I don't know how anyone could claim Die Another Day to be the worst Bond film when Moonraker exist. Apart from Jinx, Madona, and the CG tidal wave sequence, it had a lot going for it as well. The pre-credits hover craft sequence was great and it had one of the best car chase sequences in any Bond.

The often overlooked film for me was TND. It has great action (the bike sequence being a fav of mine), a great Bond villain who's motive is not 'take over the world', cool gadgets (the remote controlled car), and it easily has one of the best Bond girls in Wei Lin who is both beautiful and kickass.

As for my favs:

Bond films:
1. Goldfinger
2. Casino Royale
3. From Russia With Love
4. Goldeneye
5. Tomorrow Never Dies

Bond actors:
1. Sean Connery
2. Daniel Craig
3. Pierce Brosnan
4. George Lazenby
5. Timothy Dalton

It's no secret Moonraker is not that good either but I still believe it to be miles better than Die Another Day. You can forgive some of Moonraker flaws because it suffers from the same fate as Thunerball in that in came after three amazing Bond stories, it just wasn't all that interesting in comparison.
