Thanks for the info Munciple and BBR. Good to see YRS having this on their website.

Prices are nice too. Assuming they are region free I amy pick up a few from India in Dec.

Of course if the quality is at par with Heyy Babyy,Sawaariya and OSO.

After hearing the horror stories on PQ of the new BRs from Eros and then having a look at the YRF website on this thread I wrote to Yashraj Films 1 hr back and was surprised to get a quick reply from them.

I asked about the quality of discs and if they are mutiregion. Here is the reply

Quote:
Dear Anirban,

Thanks for your interest in our products. My comments as under.

1. All our BRD would be all region and you can buy them from anywhere in the world. In fact, we just released New York on this format and you can buy it in London. You can contact our distributor Nuff or our local office for any assistance.

2. We follow strict quality control at YRF and please be assured that all our products would be of top quality. We are authoring outside India and are following all necessary steps to ensure that all our BRD titles are of the best quality.

Regards,

Vijay
If they are authoring outside India I hope they are done well and upto international standards. The prices in India is very tempting. Only Rs 600 + 10% discount on preorder. Great stuff . Will get a few on preorder.

What will be fun to see is how they will do Kabhi Kabhi and Silsila since neither have digital negatives ..

You can't. This is for India only. I have asked my brother to get this sorted and I will collect from him in Dec while in India.

The prices in UK will be at least £15 so the Indian prices are just too tempting.

Let's see if they come up with something similar outside India. With these kind of promotions they can sell loads in the overseas market than the indian market. Hope they understand this.

Sanjay you seem to have a lot of anger against EROS, and Yash Raj Films. Seriously tone it down. I fail to see that your going get anywhere with writing stuff like "DO NOT BUY THE CRAP BEING PUT OUT BY THE LIKES OF EROS AND YASH RAJ"

Guess his concern is genuine. The folks in India definitely would believe this is what 1080p is supposed to look and sound like.

I guess it is a genuine concern. While I agree with the concern of no HD audio on the Blu-Ray Disc by YRF, that does not make YRF's first Blu-ray disc "crap"

Hopefully the future 10 releases will contain the HD audio. With the help of the person who is in touch with the Bollywood Studio's I would guess that the future Blu-Ray disc releases will contain the HD audio that from YRF.

A few of you guys are very pessimistic. Just look at some of Hollywood's very first blu-rays, like Superman Returns or even Casino Royale. They weren't lossless at first and later got re-released. India is just starting to catch up on the blu-ray trend. It's just a matter of waiting patiently, yet at the same time contacting them about the letdowns (in a civilized manner).

Speed Racer doesn't even have a HD audio updated copy.

Thanks for bringing some sanity. With what I've had to deal with regarding DVDs from all the Indian industries I'm very surprised these first titles are even this good. I'll support, happily, while letting them know what is desired feature-wise for future titles. Somebody mentioned 1500-2500 intitial print-runs on these titles. The economics just might not be there at this number. Baby steps. Support and inform and there is a good chance future titles will be improved. I would not expect it overnight.

kailashu,

Tone it down. No need to call me out in other threads like you are doing. We are all here because we love the movies and want to see them presented in the best possible way. No need to get nasty. Personally, I'm buying all the new titles (double-dipping on all, btw) with the hopes that eventually we will see some classics appear...same reason I buy all the Ayngaran titles: I want the Ratnam catalog to make it to blu-ray.

First of all, 'Casino Royale' from the very first release on BD and even the second 'Collectors edition' have had lossless audio. The first release has a 'lossless LPCM' track and the collectors edition' has a 'Dolby TrueHD' track. Secondly in the case of Hollywood the intial BD releases without HD audio was primarily a fallout of the HD-DVD & Blu-ray battle and the lack of HD audio was primarily limited to studios such as Warner and Paramount who were releasing on both formats. Warner had an obvious hidden agenda in trying to promote HD-DVD at the expense of Blu-ray due to their personal stake in the HD-DVD patents. They released titles on HD-DVD with HD audio while they simultaneously released BDs of the same titles with only lossy audio.

Secondly, Hollywood BDs without HD audio was primarily limited to catalog titles for which the studios did nto wish to redo the masters since they already had HD masters that they had prepared for the original DVD releases. Whereas, 'New York' is a current release and thus the mastering has been done specially for the BD release by Yash Raj.

Considering that I never buy pirated DVDs it is very frustrating to be dished out subpar quality with superimposed logos, forced advertisements in return for my money. It is even more frustrating when at times you see pirated material that is actually far superior to the so called origianls form the likes of Eros & Yash Raj. The end result is that friends who simply download for free get a far superior product while I feel stupid time and time again for having spent my money on DVDs that are of subpar quality.

I'm with you on the pirated DVDs stuff.. I always wait for the original stuff to release. I have a few friends who cannot wait it out who either buy a pirated DVD or download it. My biggest issue has been EROS as with them one never knows how the DVD is going to turn out.

Hopefully the go between on these forums will have good success, and getting EROS to do proper Blu-Ray discs with the same PQ on all Blu-Ray disc's that come out like the first two titles Eros Released (before newest addition of the four Blu-Ray discs that just came out).

YRF does need to start including HD audio on the Blu-Ray Disc. (I would imagine YRF will do this before EROS).

On a side not I'm glad YRF did not follow the path of Eros with going with the same authoring house.

Sanjay's language may be not be the most diplomatic but in principle what he is saying is correct. If OSO, Jodhaa Akbar can get good releases then why not these current movies? Looks like Eros and YRF are trying to make a fast buck.

If YRF can get those transfer done properly WITH lossless sound, I am buying half of those movies. Otherwise they get ignored like the current Eros blu-ray releases.
