If they haven't found the new James Bond yet, I'm guessing we won't see a new James Bond film in a few years at least, looking at the pattern of new Bond actors and the time in between more recently.

I was surprised to hear George Lazenby totally messed up his chance at remaining James Bond by partying and drinking way too much, according to him in an interview. The producers said no more, after he showed up at the premiere with a full beard and longer hair, instead of as Bond.
He said he regretted messing it up, as Roger Moore took over the role.

Also interesting how Pierce Brosnan was ready to walk on stage and announce that he would be the new Bond in the late 80s, only to be told Remington Steel, the show he thought was canceled, was renewed and forced him by contract to decline the James Bond role. It would be almost a decade later when he was offered the part again after Dalton's License to Kill didn't do well in theaters.

Thanks. Yes, that was unfortunate.
The 70s and early 80s were notorious for real onscreen animal deaths in some films sadly.

This is wildly inaccurate. Lazenby had already left the role on his own volition by the time of the premiere and he has admitted in multiple interviews including those in Becoming Bond that it was due to bad advice on what direction he should take his career in.

I've had conversations with my father where he tells me that people who worked with Lazenby did not like his personality very much, and did not in fact like working with him.

Lazenby has been the first to admit that he was young and full of himself at the time, even going so far as to give advice to more seasoned professionals on how to do their jobs.
