Default Viva las Vegas

Just watched the Blu-ray of this, and very happy to say it looked exceptional for its age and a fun movie to boot. Highly recommended. Has anyone seen the other Elvis blu-ray to see if its comparable PQ wise?

Vegas has sure changed a lot since that movie was made. Plus, throughout the movie, I kept thinking, "I see thin people." Oh, yeah, and the high water pant legs. I forgot that was the style for guys in that era--myself included when I was a teenager way back then.

I got Viva Las Vegas the week it came out (blind buy) - and I have to say I LOVED it. I also got Jailhouse Rock - but still have not watched it.

Default Worthy Of A Blind Buy

I'd seen a handful of Elvis movies before (but had missed this one on DVD). It's a fantastic movie with a fantastic transfer. It's an amazingly fun movie and, even if you're just a mid-level Elvis fan like me, there's a good chance you'll enjoy the 90 minutes you spend in Vegas with Elvis.

Not my favorite Elvis movie by any stretch, only a few decent songs - but one of the few on Blu. I picked it up for $4.99 at Best Buy after reading the overly enthusiastic BRDC review and Ann Margaret was HOT! I'd like to have seen her dancing with the '50's Elvis, not the movies-neutered '60's Elvis. WOW!

I have recently seen every Elvis movie ever made. There are about 30 of them!

Out of that vast selection I bought:

Viva Las Vegas
Girl Happy
Loving You

I really like the first two. In Viva Las Vegas, Ann-Margret is both cute and talented. In Girl Happy, I love all the songs and Shelley Fabares is super hot.

I don't really like "Loving You" that much as a movie but it has lots of Elvis dance sequences in it so I bought it for that reason.

I'd love to see Girl Happy on Blu-ray but it doesn't exist yet. The DVD is quite clear though.

Not that I expect agreement , but my favorite Elvis films (chronologically):

King Creole (1958), Flaming Star (1960), Follow That Dream (1962), Elvis: That's the Way It Is (1970) & Elvis On Tour (1972)

Anyone else surprised more Elvis films haven't made it out to blu yet? I've been holding off on this and jailhouse hoping for a box set!

It really is amazing that more Presley movies haven't made it BD. Why they chose Viva Las Vegas and Jailhouse as their initial offerings is puzzling for sure. Even so, they're a guilty pleasure with essentially interchangeable plot lines, but it's also fun to see teenage-marketed movies from this era. For some reason, the studios seen to be very slow in releasing a lot of older movies in general. I guess they figure the market isn't that strong for them. BTY, the VLV title is an amazing transfer. Let's hope they do as good of a job with the others, if and when they get around to releasing them.

You can't be serious.

JAILHOUSE ROCK and VIVA LAS VEGAS have been out for over 5 years. So you've gone 5 years without getting these films on Blu to save a total of $20.00? Incredible. I get a kick out of folks who hold out for boxed sets but I think 5 years is the record for futility.

There's likey to never be a substantial Elvis boxed set anyway because Elvis made movies for virtually every big studio. Someday, there might be a set with SOME of his movies but with Elvis movies from Fox, Warner, MGM, Paramount and Universal, there won't be a definitive set.

Keep holding out for that boxed set.

Why the hate? Are you simply having a bad day or are you like this in everyday life?
In other news... Warner seems to distribute their own catalog as well as MGM and paramount, at least to some degree, so a box set may not be that implausible after all!

Just a thought, but : most of E's music has reverted to Elvis Presley Enterprises (in some weird partnership with RCA, etc), so they release $30 FTD (Follow That Dream) CDs (most double with state-of-the-art sound & in-studio extras). The movies, however, bring in huge multimedia companies who may not be willing to cut sweetheart deals with EPE - yet. Hopefully someday soon, because the CDs look like crap - especially on wide-screen TV's. I recently rewatched Follow That Dream (which I love) and reluctantly used it a $5 Best Buy trade-in. E deserves better, his whole catalog should be restored and released on Blu.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for Elvis: That’s The Way It Is - Two Disc Special Edition (although, who needs the coaster).

I have to agree here, People amaze me holding out for boxsets... If a boxset comes out with stupid packaging(Cardboard sleeves), That is the only time I wait for separate releases and sometimes I don't wait even then. Humans...

"I'm gonna wait for 5 years for a boxset, Just to end up paying $10.00 more for the box." Hahahahahahahahahaha

Haven't seen this one, but it will be on my radar for sure when it's released. Presley movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. He had such goofy enthusiasm in his roles with songs that were simplistic and silly, but I'm still drawn to them because they remind me of an era when things weren't as complicated as they are now. I'd like to see someone release Blue Hawaii, Paradise Hawaiian Style, Spinout, Clambake or King Creole in BD, too.
