Default new here, question about compatibility with my blu-ray player and hdtv.

I have had my HDTV for 2 whole years now. It is a bit out of date by todays television market standards, but the deal was too good to pass at the time. I got a 51' Magnavox rear projection HDTV that puts out at 1080i for 500 bucks. Now on black friday of this year I found myself a Sony BDPS350 Blu-ray Player for 179 bucks that of course puts out at 1080p. Will my TV be compatible with the player or am i so out of date that I am royally ****ed.

I am sure people have heard this many times, but if you could help me out... it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, you'll be fine. You'll probably just have to output 1080i from the BD player instead of 1080p. Don't worry, it'll still look awesome.

As stated above, no compatibility issues will exist. However, it must be stated that you are not going to experience the real beauty that Blu-ray has to offer with that TV. After 2 years, don't you think it's time to get a TV that will last you at least 10???

you will get the best picture you have seen on the tv you have with the blu-ray player, just not the best picture possible. So you are fine for now but ofcourse eventually upgrade. Also if you have a suround sound you will get much better audio.
