Default Its A Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Is anyone else dying to have this on bluray? When HTWWO was released it made me want it even more. I know they can do a good job and add features. Ive held off on buying the dvd hoping some day they will release it on blu. Anyone have any details or heard any rumors on this?

If they do release it on Blu ray, hopefully it will be the 188 minute version that I have on laserdisc ( yes, laserdisc ) and NOT the 161 minutes out on dvd.

I'm dying to have it on Blu-ray as well! Spencer Tracy and an all-star cast of literally hundreds! Who could ask for anything more than that?!

I'd love to see that on BD for sure. I never knew there was an extended edition.

Default (rumor mill) A fully restored version is in the works

The full road version hasn't been seen since the first release by Cinerama. Police radio calls to bring people back from intermission played in the lobby.

The Alamo is another restored film on Laser Disk, but not on DVD in that form.

Would love to see this on Blu. One of my all time favorite comedies.

"He cauuunt seee"

I've seen this movie countless times and it's still makes me laugh

I love when they're all trying to split up the "shares" at the beginning

If it's Cinerama, I'M holding out for Warner to finally spend the restoration money on George Pal's 1962 "Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm"--
Of which one letterbox VHS/TCM print is still floating around, since Warner hasn't ponied up the money to restore it for anamorphic SD disk yet.
(And my last VHS tape is in vault storage, and only taken out on holidays and special occasions.)

Image's "Worlds of George Pal" disk even contained a wealth of Grimm-related archive material, so it's not like Warner would be starving for bonus.

I'd VERY much like to see it on Blu, preferably the full version, but hell, anything would be good.

I asked about it on a couple of "insider's" threads last week but didn't get any feedback on it alas.

Default "Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm"

There is a letterboxed version on Laser Disk. Write me in private.

I'll ask Dave Strohmaier. He did the documentary Cinerama Adventure and a commentary both on HTWWW. It may take a few days to get a response. He also hangs out on the Wide Screen Museum.

While this is a classic movie...I'd buy this...if it was in a bargain bin for like $3.00 somewhere...not real high on my list of musthaves

(Uh, I mentioned I don't have an LD, and nobody gets their greasy paws anywhere near my VHS tape copy?)

I'd asked the Warner rep on the Home Theater Forum Chat (only studio that shows up there anymore... ), and was told the reason was restoration cost vs. profit--With only a letterbox video print, they'd have to start on the film print from scratch.
This was right after "80 Days" first came out on SD, though, so it was a while ago--And now that 80 and HTWWW (and 2001) are out of the way, the mandatory short-list "required-reading" Cinerama's seem to be done with...Now, there's only Mad4, "Ice Station Zebra", "This Is" and Grimm to deal with before the more obscure titles, and "New to disk" might be enough of a prestige angle to get a Smilebox out of Grimm.

(Just so long as they keep the Premiere newsreel from the Image disk.)

Walmart.com has their pre-order up. It's only $10 (MSRP $19.99). The listing would seem to confirm that it is the 161 minute version. Guess I'll hang on to my Laserdisc.

well seems pretty likely this will be a typical MGM straight print transfer, although there is hope that it might be a newer transfer.
glad to see this one coming to blu though MGM will receive a ton of criticism if it is from some ancient print.
looks like July 5th is the release date.
fingers crossed for a good release.
