Those season 3 screenshots look stunning - I forgot how many great episodes there are in season 3!

You're right lolwut, there are definitely discrepancies in sharpness across various screengrabs. At best, some shots (esp. close-ups & establishing shots) have incredible levels of detail. At worst, it looks like a 90s TV show, and I can't really blame it for that.

No...at worst, it looks upscale from SD. Seriously, those screenshots from the US HD broadcasts all look upscaled, and the presentation can be blamed for that. I don't think this is what we'll be seeing on BD. The German HD screenshots look exponentially better.

Agreed. The difference in the most recent screenshots on this thread to the earlier HD German screen shots is profound; the German HD shots are much crisper/clearer.

You're right. Those are not El Ray captures (at least not from the HD version of the channel).

Even the very best lossy pics available now probably wouldn't match the quality of a direct-sourced file presented on blu-ray.

The framing is far better in widescreen.

This shot is from the same source as the others. Granted, it's just one shot, and the rest of the shots do look nice.

I have both sources, the El Rey and German sources are identical. What it is, is that some scenes of the episodes weren't remastered. Oddly enough. Mostly transition shots.

The "bad" image above with the hospital bed, isn't even the same resolution as the source which is; so there's that as well.

Why in the world would they not transfer the transition shots to HD?

Some are stock shots that may not have only been available in video form originally; others, the original film used may not have been located during the restoration process.

Transitions were no doubt originally done in standard definition, as the series was edited on SD video for several seasons.

Man, I really love this episode. Haven't seen it in years, but I always loved the alien smoking a cigarette saying "This is not happening, this is not happening."

I'm trying to hold out on watching any X-Files until the blu-rays come out, but all of these caps are really making it hard.

Nice to see Amanda Tapping in the screen captures. I always enjoyed Avatar. A great Skinner heavy-episode!

Mulder's "mandroid" scene in this episode is one of the best moments in the entire series.

That's awesome. I had it turned up a little louder than I expected and it actually startled me.

My favourite episode of the entire series. Season three is my favourite season - to combination of mythology episodes, standalones and the comedic tone they nailed in many episodes set a perfect feel for the series for me.
