So, any new screencaps, especially from 'Fearful Symmetry' appreciated.

Put out a complete series with both movies right before Christmas and then starting in 2015 release the individual seasons one at a time like has been done with the Dick Van Dyke show.

Eidassan's take on this topic is the most logically sound I've read here, and I appreciate the examples provided. And I agree: Who wants to see Scully's legs and cleavage eliminated from the screen? Removing such sacred goodies from our field of vision is an outrage, nay, a mortal sin!

I think the Transformer thread may start giving this one a run for its money, if it keeps heading the direction it's currently going.

This. Every word of it. Even the cigarette smoking man agrees. Really enjoyed reading your post Eidassan. Thanks for taking the time.

I think part of the reason I have no problem with 16x9 for this TV show as opposed to other TV shows is the fact that, for me, its proverbial "pulse" lies within its unrelenting nature about conspiracy. It is always in the air like a lead weight. For me, every other argument, whether it be about the dated FX not being redone or the aspect ratio/framing seems a little more like minutiae.

As I stated before, I'm usually an OAR guy, but from what I've seen thus far, I'm rather happy with the widescreen results. Perhaps that doesn't make me a true fan of this amazing show, but again, I think the feel and atmosphere of the show, so thick that one can cut it with a knife, speaks volumes for itself and will do obviously well in 16x9 if Fox ultimately chooses that.

I love lamp. But only if it's in 16x9.

Yet, overall there are far more instances where the move to 16x9 degrades the image than where it enhances it. So, yes, to drive it home once more this series was meant for 4x3 and should have been restored as such. As for seasons 5-9, it would be interesting to do a similar comparison, but unfortunately we lack the 4x3 DVD source materials.
I've watched some season 5 and 6 episodes the last few days and it seems to depend on the episode (director?) whether the show looks cropped or natural in widescreen. For example in "Mind's Eye" I saw some very nice wide shots with multiple people framed correctly while in "Bad Blood" I noticed the sides were never used the some zoomed-in feeling heads.

It's probably a mixed bag all through the entire series, I am guessing.

My guess: They are going to release in a particular aspect ratio(obvioulsy), and 99.9% of the AR talk will vanish.

I can only hope that Carter talks about the filming and why he chose to go the way they did. That would be good enough for me.
Of course a select few are going to complain no matter what...I think it's the only way they can really be happy. A shame actually.

rickah anyone ever told you you're passive agressive?

think about what you're saying. so if carter ever says "this was the way I envisioned the x-files, the way its presented in remastered HD" does that mean every1 is supposed to shut up , because carter said so?
So if carter says "season 9 is how I always envisioned the xfiles would end" every1 is supposed to go "oh , how cool that season 9 is! one of the best!" ?

how good or bad an episode, season, direction, composition, framing etc is , is up for the individual viewer to decide, not the intention of creators. we are the judges and every1 has his own opinion.

let's say we do a comparison of episodes you like/dislike and i and other posters like/dislike and it turns out you dislike some episodes we like, then are we supposed to say "oh, that rickah can never be hapy, cause he doesn't like The field where I died!" ?
Really, get a grip man, and respect others' opinions as something they are entitled to as are you, esp if they can provide legitimate arguments.

Nope.

Fact: There are people, who post on this very forum, who lend the impression they can never be happy, and will strive to find fault in just about anything. It's always the same people too...imagine that.
Now with that said, of course they have every right to their opinion. I've never said someone doesn't have a right to their own opinion....but in MY opinion, they will, most likely be more unhappy than happy. Hey, if that's their thing...best of luck.

So if I firmly believe, and place my trust in the creative team...isn't that my personal preference? According to your logic I should be able to do that. Right?

I guarantee there won't be any episodes I dislike.

Of course you do, that's my whole point!

It's just that whithin your own opinion try not to judge other people so much for their own opinions. Or at least keep it to yourself, cause the whole point is to give everyone the space for their own likings, unless they are very obvious trolls. It is my opinion, from the way you're presenting yours is that you are not allowing people to have that "space".

Like eg. what is the point of saying there are folks who 'will strive to find fault in just about anything' ? Of course there will be, it's just life. Fortunetely I have not seen people like this in this thread, just folks who have a decent intelligent conversation. So why mention it here?

Why mention it here? Because I have every right to do just that. If you don't like it...oh well.
Just like I have to see everyone post that I consider, to be, inane arguments, that might not even happen as this set isn't even announced yet...let alone any technical specs released.
This is commonly referred to as: A two way street.

Sure there is right for people to say something ; they even have the right to be rude.
But there is also "the right thing to do".
Kinda two seperate levels for behaviour.

Sure, take your side of the street man, just dont horn at those who took the other. Mr Yappi would have said "you're giving off negative energy"

If someone wants to be rude...that's their choice.

As I've always said, I'll be waiting for an official BD announcement. Then I'll wait and see how the creative team weighs in on how this BD was made. Then I'll render my judgement. But that's just me.

First of all, Thanks very much to all of those forum members who have contributed to this thread, especially those who have provided screen shots of the show in high-def.

I would definitely buy an X-files Blu set no matter which aspect ratio the shows were presented in....that being said, I would prefer not to see the distorted "stretching" that I've seen when the aspect ratio is off, or when I myself (via the controls on the remote) "stretch" the picture so that it fits the screen...

Going along with this, something I haven't seen brought up yet re: the aspect ration discussion (or if it was, I missed it) is that the types of TV sets that we have these days have a lot to do with why we want the show to be in widescreen:

Back when X-files was first released 21 years ago, almost everyone had Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) TV's, so when watching the show the picture filled up the entire TV screen, as all shows did during that time.

It's been a while since I've seen the X-files DVD sets, but IIRC the first several seasons are in the full-screen format, whereas the later seasons are in the widescreen format. Since I initially stopped watching the show after about the 3rd season, I don't know how these later season broadcasts originally looked on a CRT TV.

Now, almost everyone has a widescreen TV. So, if the first several seasons of the show are in the full-screen format as they were originally broadcast, they will only take up the middle of a widescreen set with the large black bars on either side....I personally have no problem with this since it's the way the show was originally broadcast, but I can see why this may not look that great to most viewers.

Again, I don't have an extremely strong opinion either way. I will just be glad to get the series on Blu since it's obvious the PQ will be better than what we have now.

All I know is that on the day that I finally insert that first long-awaited X-Files Blu-Ray disc into the PS3, hands shaking with excitement, I will know deep down that... after reading this thread, I will be disappointed with whatever aspect ratio they choose.
